The fact that they went and researched specifically how the face moves for specific emotions and incorporated that into the system helped provide for more accurate and realistic facial animation that produced visuals that are pretty remarkable, IMO. I guess you don't agree.

The facial animation system is more than just lip synching.
Oh, yes, a model raising an eyebrow or blinking is so cutting edge and is such an addition to the lipsynching.

Half-Life 2's character models don't do anything that hasn't been done in many other games before. The way it is implemented from a development standpoint may be somewhat novel, but the end result on screen is not.

How much you want to bet that right now, Riley is seperating out my post sentence by sentence, dissecting it in slobbering, hissing demonic spasms, rubbing his cock while moaning like the twisted little shitbasket he is.

Wait for it...

Anyone else sick of all these Valve announcements which have NOTHING to do with all the content that should have come out already?

So he forgot. And my argument stands. His mistake was not "TEH ST00P1DI5T THING EVAR!!111!!".

And what game, exactly, has better lip-synching than HL 2? I'm really interested in hearing your reply to that...

Well, it was a fun thread until Riley decided to wipe his giant, putrid, diseased asshole all over it. You know Riley, you're the biggest fucking prick i've ever seen on these boards.

As a development feature, it may be unique in the way it is implemented, but the end result is far from unique. I certainly wouldn't call it the best lipsynching I have seen in a game.

What the hell does that mean anyway? What was unique about how it was implemented? What wasn't unique about the end result? What out there looks anything like it? What does lip-synching have to do with the facial emotions? What else out there has done better? Why the fuck are you such a giant dick? Inquiring minds want to know.

No you're right. The lip synching in C&C: Tiberian Sun was way better. In fact, the lip synching in those 1995 FMV games was better. Valve suck. They should have just used FMV.

Edit: twat.

Go into Garry's Mod and place a bunch of dumsters and what not. THen drop a couple of rebels and combine and watch 'em duke it out. If they're near cover, they'll use it.
Really? I've never used Garry's mod so I'll belive u (;P) but I can assure you the grunts SUCK at navigation without nodes. This isn't a criticism of the AI (it's designed for nodes, of course it's crap without them) but it's a waste of time testing a SP map without decent node placement.

Nodes help out a lot, of course, but the AI still make due on it's own.

The news that the GOTY edition would be published/distributed by EA has been posted on Blues several times along with resulting long and heated discussion threads. Nin even posted in it: http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=58630&id=252616&boardid=1&view=flatnew

By the way, Metastasis for HL2 is excellent. It was linked here a couple of days ago. Very very good.

Enemies can now realize that random dumpster A can be used for cover without pre-set nodes from the level designer
Heh nope, you still need to put in the info_node, info_node_hint and info_hints. Try not doing so, and the AI is really quite retarded. But decent placing and they can whip you in the map you designed

Obligatory lol @ Riley.

So that mod has first-person limb models, eh?

Nin, you have outdone yourself as that is the most stupid thing you have ever posted which is no small feat given your past posts.

He was unaware that Valve switched publishers for the GOTY edition. I don't see how this could be the stupidest thing he's ever posted (especially if there's any validity to your second assertion, but let's not let logic get in the way of your blind rage).

There's not really much to elaborate on; All AI is scripted. The only thing that varies is the complexity and flexibility of the script.

In Doom, the script was pretty simple. Aim towards the player and meander in his direction.

In Half-Life, the script was pretty complex for the time. Using nodes, things knew where cover was; and when grenades were a good idea. However, it was still a script; they weren't analyzing anything beyond requirements for an if/then statment. (Though I might be wrong on that. It's been awhile since I've seen this discussion)

In Half-Life 2, the script is a bit more flexible, but it's still a script. Enemies can now realize that random dumpster A can be used for cover without pre-set nodes from the level designer, but they're still scripted to look for cover. All their tactics are scripted. When they try and flank you or flush you out with a grenade, it's because a script tells them that's a good idea for that situation.

EA won't get any money no matter WHERE you buy it, since EA didn't publish it...
LOL! Yes, EA is distributing the game for Valve for free.

BTW, if you buy HL2 on Steam, EA gets no money, so don't buy it retail
I'll do you one better. Don't pay anything at all and then you can screw Valve too.
