I think Rupert Murdoch is a good businessman but that business interests can really run up against ethics in the world of journalism. And that's what IGN is... game journalism. People already think IGN is too soft on game scores, and some people wonder if this is due to IGN's heavy marketing. I mean, they get paid a ton of money to put up massive marketing ads all over their site... and it seems like the scores for some pretty crappy games get softened up because of it.
Giving people what they want is a great way to run a business, but not a news organisation. Because then you just pander to whatever the people want to hear.
I wouldn't be surprised if FOX games and movies started getting better reviews on IGN. Just a few percentage points higher than other game review sites of course... nothing to give away the little game..
