JoWooD's Pulse

This announcement on the JoWooD Productions Website states that a court has rejected bankruptcy proceedings against the publisher (thanks Gamecloud), saying "JoWooD will now continue its successful way of restructuring the company." The update also reflects on the recent dispute with developer Perception (story) over the Stargate SG-1 video game:
The court order also states that Perception itself has admitted that the delay of the game delivery was also caused by the failure of Perception although JoWooD has already paid the undisputable amount of EUR 5.5 Mio.

No, my common sense tells me not to blindly believe allegations made in a press release by a company which just lost its funding.
JoWood did not lose its funding. The exact opposite occured. It got saved from forced bankruptcy.

In addition Jowood's press release is not an allegation. It is a statement of the content of the court's order which could be easily disproved if untrue.

Anyone remember the quest where you had to poison the goblin king's food ,and then he went rushing off to the WC so you could steal his phat lewt?

Great fun, very imaginative. The only quest better than that I can remember was in an old space-sim - you had to steal the ceiling of the sistine chapel, floating in space

It WAS the next ultima underworld, but they couldn't get the licence. You can switch to UW mode by casting the UW rune, it apparently blurs everything up really badly so it feels like your playing a game from 1991

The Arx Fatalis team is, I believe, making Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. It's going to be in the M&M universe but without a party. I imagine similar to how they did Arx Fatalis but without the rune casting.

Yup, the new issue of PC Gamer that I just got in the mail yesterday has a nice little write up about it inside of the "FPS preview" cover story. I loved Arx, but thought I was one of the few who did...apparently not.

I loved how Arx made you stake zombies to prevent them from coming back, and how each of the races on each level did "their own thing" whether you were there or not. It felt real, felt like a living world. With proper marketing, it could have been the next Ultima Underworld.

After Gothic I & II, you'd think any publisher in their right mind would want to publish Gothic III - and publish it properly this time. Bring on Gothic III!

Yeah, just imagine if a real publisher snapped that up and gave it the kind of advertising it deserved. Then we might have it spoken in the same sentence with Ultima and Wizardry.

Nevermind all this, when's Arx Fatalis 2 coming out?

The first game in that series just oozed atmosphere, the only things about it I didn't like were the rune casting system and the fact I could never complete the quest where you have to save the little girl. Other than that, it was great.

There's precious few publishers who are willing to support PC game developers - I don't wish ANY of them to go out of business. Like others here, I'm not an insider, so it's impossible to say what is really the case or who is at fault, but I'm behind ANY developer sticking it out on the PC, and ANY publisher bringing their games to market.

Wow, thats the a quote worth saving. "Its successful way of restructuring the company"

Bye bye, Jowood. You deserve it after trying to fuck Perception.

The bit where he said Jowood deserved to go under or the bit where he said they were good for gamers?

Having publishers that publish smaller, less known games is important for the business (and the gamers), in a time where giants as EA is trying to control the business. They have to be creative to sell, as copying the big boys wont help without the marketing machine.

EDIT: And yeah, I don't see the world in black or white. If some of the smaller games wont be published after a possible death of Jowood, we have a problem in my mind. Still, I don't agree with some aspects of their business practice.

Which bit? The bit where he said Jowood deserved to go under or the bit where he said they were good for gamers? Atilla's credibility is at an all-time low here. Lowest since I started keeping records.
