UC: A World Apart Patch Glitch

3000AD sends along word on a glitch with the initial release of the version 1.00.03 auto-update for Universal Combat: A World Apart. Here's word on the problem, and the updated update, which does not iterate the game's version number:
Yesterday we released the v1.00.03 patch to the public via the in-game patch Updater. We have since discovered that an incorrect character asset was included in the original game distribution. This would cause one of the Instant Action scenarios (IA0113) which uses that asset, to fail upon loading.

To this end, we have re-issued this patch today and corrected this problem.

For those who have not yet updated their version, running the in-game Updater will download the new version.

For those who have already updated their version, the steps described in the v1.00.03 section of the recently updated version control file show how to force the Updater to re-download and re-apply the patch.

We apologize for this error. Hope you are enjoying the game as much as we enjoyed developing it.

Prez...what you just did there was unbelievably stupid. Just about as stupid as posting your social security number online. Especially on a board where you're know to be quite irritating to some people, who thus have a reason [well, they don't...so it's more of an excuse] to cause trouble.

I admire you're incredible stupidity. You must've voted for Bush, and I bet you admire his incredible 'gutsiness'.

And, dsmart; you haven't adequately explained your reasoning for inconveniencing your custumers instead of your betatesters. It is a basic tennent in the mod-community (and even moreso the paid gamedev community, as it is in any other industry) that everything should be easy for the users, no matter what the costs to the programmers, betatesters or other non-paying people associated with the product.

So why have you shift the hassle to your paying community? It would have been a piece of cake to reversion the betapatch, or get your tech savy betatesters to use NotePad (or god forbid UltraEdit or even Context!) instead of the people who have paid you money and should therefore be able to expect a no-hassle experience.

And saying 'my userbase has brains!' just doesn't cut it, neither does 'it was my decision to make! And I can do anything I want! Nja!'; otherwise I'd have to program MatLab, Maple and MultiSim all by myself.
