WoW The World of Warcraft Q&A on GamerGod
talks with Blizzard Designer Shawn Carnes about their MMORPG: "Current
retention is high, and I am more impressed by the low turnover than our
resubscription spikes during patches. The WoW live team continues to work on
content directed to the existing customers to keep them interested in the
game. If I had to guess, somewhere between 15 - 20% of our accounts have at
least once 60th level character, so the content needs to cater to those
customers. "
Digital Distribution Can
Digital Distribution Deliver? on File Rush offers answers from Valve's
Doug Lombardi and 3D Realms' Scott Miller about the digital present and
future of game distribution: "The ability to auto update an application has
proven to be even more valuable than we originally thought. Back when we
were doing updates via monolithic downloads, the proliferation of the
content introduced in the updates was relatively unknown to us and to many
of our customers. With Steam, however, when we release something new like
HL2 Deathmatch, it automatically appears in everyone's game menu. And with
that, we've taken a weakness of PC games away and replaced it with a
distinct advantage."
