Mac Myst V Demo

A demo of Myst V: End of Ages is now available for the Macintosh, allowing a sample of the next installment in Cyan's series on its (more or less) original platform. This is a rare fresh Apple for which there is not yet a PC counterpart, though that should come next week (thanks Frans). The demo can be found on the Ubisoft FTP Server.

Yes, but not being able to play games is a "feature" - it's something along the lines of "Think Different".

Myst was originally made for Macs, with Macs, so I say 'fair enough'. If only Bungie showed the same loyalty.

shit, I remember playing Manhole on the Mac... IIRC it was the very first game available on CD-ROM

pretty much exact same gameplay as myst - except with monochrome hand drawn graphics

Ah, Bungie. Halo was looking so promising until they were bought out by Microsoft and sodomised the whole concept... it went from being THE most promising game of its time to a mindless shoot'em up with boring identical interiors and no coherent plot.

It was interesting how it went from Mac, to PC, to Xbox, then back to PC and finally to Mac. I'm sure there's some irony in there somewhere.

mindless shoot'em up

No more mindless than Call of Duty or Doom or pretty much any "shoot em up".

with boring identical interiors

Ok, agreed. Although the earth level from the tank/bridge sequence all the way to fighting the spider-mech was awesome fun.

and no coherent plot

Huh? I followed the plot quite well. Not exactly happy with the abrupt "lets leave some content for Halo 3" ending, but it definitely wasn't incoherent.

And yet everyone and their cousin bought it. What do THAT say?

So that's why they introduce the demonstration saying that it's running in real-time on a Mac? Even if it *was* on a PC, the earliest versions of Halo were based on the Myth engine which was a Mac/PC hybrid.

Anyway, I meant that Bungie's real origin was on the Mac with the Marathon trilogy (still one of the best stories in a FPS ever)

So no comments on the game yet? Does it play much like Uru, which was also in live 3D?
