World War II Combat: Road to Berlin Announced

Groove Games announces World War II Combat: Road to Berlin, an Unreal-engine World War II first-person shooter for the PC and Xbox in development at Direct Action Games that's dues for release on September 27, 2005. The game's product page is already online (thanks Frans) though the screenshots are only available as thumbnails. This is an unrelated project to Battlestrike: The Road to Berlin, as the WW2 shooter genre has apparently become crowded to the point that there aren't enough subtitles to go around. Here's a bit on the game, which touches on the now-familiar secret weapons theme:
World War II Combat: Road to Berlin™ takes place at the close of WWII, where there was a dramatic race between U.S. and Russian forces to capture German prototypes, research and top scientists. The spoils of this race altered the direction of the Cold War and the world at large for decades to come.

All of the German weapons research and systems featured in World War II Combat: Road to Berlin™ are based on actual designs, prototypes and wind tunnel models that were completed before the war ended. Several of the advanced weapon systems featured in the game were actually produced and saw combat against the allies. Much of what was captured remains classified to this day, 60 years after the end of the war.

Who says games have to be based on history, games are for FUN, they should be imaginative.

If I want to relive the WWx experience Ill go talk to my relatives or watch The History Channel.

Then when we go to the Future we always end up with the Space Ranger games or Future Sports like Unreal Tournament or Halo etc. Yawn but at least its not overdone WWx generes.

Then what else do we have, crap movie tie ins, like The Matrix milking, and Aliens and Predator etc...

Tron, just dont go there

Legends looks to be a decent Tribes2 replacement I HOPE even though they are a bunch of wangs (they banned a complete ISP just to block one person LOL r-tards).

Flight sims for me is LockOn if they fixed the damn bugs to get more players on.

Sub games, what about Silent Hunter?

I want MMO game action but I dont want the current subscription models (thats a whole different story :D)

I can't think of a single modern conflict (involving mass artillery, armoured tanks etc etc) that had the amount of "fun" than WW2. WW1 was a stalemate of sitting in trenches sending men to their deaths (unless you focus on the first couple of months or the last couple of months when it was a mobile war), Korean war i dont know much about, Vietnam is getting to the stage of "over doneness", and the two gulf wars, sorry one's a conflict isnt it, are just boring.

There's haven't been any wars recently (bar WW2) where everything has been done on such a major scale. Plus most modern wars comprise of "oh i'm 15 miles from the target, i have a lock, lets fire". That to me is boring. Unless it's a straight naval sim where that's ok. Infact where are the naval sims of modern times with great big battleships and stuff? I want one.

There is quite a few games that I didnt like that where using Unreal engines, T:V, Unreal, Unreal Tourney 2003 , 2004, and a few others, spot the trend, considering UT is a "showcase" for this engine, it sucks. T:V was a major turn off after so much hype even the developers said it was a bad choice of an engine. Alot of the games done on this engine seem so flat, fake, empty and rather limited.

CryTek, Pain, and Torque TSE are quite good engines even more so than Unreal Engine.

As for WWx games, BF2 was the first and LAST of WWx type games ill probably buy. I only got BF2 out of bordom and need for Multiplayer action

What's wrong with Unreal? It's currently one of the most used and powerful game engines out there. Just because you didn't like UT or something doesn't mean the engine is bad.
