What is your impression with the PSP so far ?

It's fucking awesome...you can play games, movies (those you buy on UMD, or those you rip from dvd), listen to audio, surf the web (w/ wifi hot spot), etc...

If you travel much, it's a great way to pass time. If you're looking for tools to reencode video to the smaller screen (and in turn shrink the file size), I use Nero, but PSPVideo9 is also available (and is free)...A 512 meg memory stick will be also be needed, if you plan to throw much video on it. I can get movies to fit in around 175-300 meg each, depending on quality.

Someone busted the 2.0 firmware?? About time. I accidentally let my PSP update to it, not having touched it for a month or so.

A month ???

They still have not released the thing over here in the UK yet, What is your impression with the PSP so far ?

I was thinking of holding off to see who comes out ahead in the handheld war(between Sony and Nintendo)

I don't quite understand what Sony's issue with Homebrew is anyways?
In the Corporate mind Homebrew means Loss of Control, of content and use.

It's similar to arguments against Open Source:
- Homebrew means potential DMCA violations.
- Homebrew means a potential Rockstar situation.
- Homebrew means the PSP could gain the reputation as the premiere pirate platform.
and on and on.

Sony can't appear to be =facilitating= such criminal or anti-social behavior by Officially opening the PSP up to homebrew development, better to just let it happen underground - they still get their increased sales AND they can take the High Moral Ground.

I guess they see it as a way for pirates to ehh pirate their stuff..

In their eyes homebrew might lead to someone making a loader and addon for the PSP where you can download tons games for free, load them up into the addon thingy and they play on your PSP..

I don't quite understand what Sony's issue with Homebrew is anyways? With Homebrew, people have more functionality in their PSP, which potentially would lead to more sales for your PSP, right? So what's the whole problem?

If I was in charge of Sony, I'd offer the guy a fucking job in my R&D lab.

I just skimmed the article, but it sound like they're fooling the PSP into running the content, thinking it's a firmware upgrade, when it's not...

You just KNOW there's a lab of Sony goons pulling their hair out right now...
