I run it beautifully on my 3500+, 2Gb DDR400 and X850XT. Its perfect in all resolutions.
My son has 2700+ XP, 1Gb DDR400 and a Ti4200. I expected it to be jerky. It wasn't. Tried it on 1024x768 and it was smooth and fast. BUT the blood looked funny, couldn't notice his shadow and not much smoke filling the room during gun battles. And the opaque glass window on the door looked funny.
So it was just detail really.
However another freind has a 2000+ XP, 512Mb DDR400, 9600Pro and it hesitated a lot and took ages to lload. Didn't sticka round to watch his battles - probably sad - tthat was on 800x600.
SP Ti4200 owner - just get a bit more ram!!!

Actually, you MIGHT be better off with the graphics card with more memory on it.

That memory is used to store and swap textures onto your display, thus the more texture memory you have, the less stutter you should have....

Played this demo on multiple PCs (2 of my own) and it ran great for me. Stutters here and there when entering new areas, but otherwise runs ok on a tweaked recommended settings.

BTW, the two systems i run it on:

Athlon64 3800+ (Venice core, read SSE3)
2gigs CorsairXMS
Radeon X800XT 256MB (AGP)
2x WesternDigital Raptor (74GB) RAID-0
2x WesternDigital 1200JB (120GB) RAID-0
Hyundai 19" LCD display (8ms response)

And:
Athlon64 3400+ (socket754)
1gig Kingston HyperX
GeForce6600GT 256MB
WesternDigital 80gigger
Viewsonic Optiquest G90F 19" CRT

Game looks about equal on each monitor, and that LCD i nabbed was a GREAT buy from Newegg by the way, LOW response for something that size, and the colour is nice and vibrant, and no issues with brightness...

Found this for info from another message board. The black screen at game start are a codec related sound issue. You can opt to play the game silently (!) from the configurator, or the chances are, you have ACE Mega codec pack (or similar) installed - removing it will let the game start. It worked for me - so I thought I would pass it on.

How many more times do we need to see that dumb ass horror cliche? Little girls singing, crying, whispering, appearing out of no where and disapearing etc...personally I wasn't impressed by that as it's in nearly any horror movie released since the Ring became the so-called "Matrix of the horror genre", with all imitators following suit. One of my only gripes with the direction of F.E.A.R.

I could not agree more. Same old horror as in almost all horror games. The question is how to make it really scary. I guess it isn't that easy.
I for sure also agree about the state of horror movies (being a horror fan myself). Not only do ALL japanese movies copy The Ring, think of all the shitty remakes of late. Scary? Nope.

[edit] The F.E.A.R. demo was great, but not very scary imho.

I can play HL2, Battlefield 2, all those games without a hitch...but this game has a serious stuttering problem. I was constantly having to sit and wait for some graphic to load whenever I entered a new area. Not smooth at all.

If I were monolith, I would focus on fixing that.

Right. This thing crashes when I start it up.

Oh, and I don't find it of much entertainment value being forced to install DirectX and being told to restart my computer after uninstalling either.

I take it then it's no better than that MP beta demo a few months back. Great Monolith. Maybe another good NOLF title to wash this shit away with?

Video sync: On

FSAA: Off

AF: Off (enabled later dpeending on performance)

Head bob: b[No more than 25%], if not just turned off.

Mouse smoothing: Disabled/low

Mouse sensitivity: Set to your own liking

Soft shadows: Disabled

Those shold be all the basic settings to get you good performance. Having said that, I would hate to play this on anything less than a 9700-level card (and even that is not so hot.)
BFS: EA's The Sims for FPS
Noting it is primarily about the bob and bandwidth,

I can't stand the rubbery/laggy feel of the guns...The movement is kinda clunky too. I dunno, just feels weird.
Sounds like you are suffering from poor framerate just like many of us. What is your FPS while playing?

I can't stand the rubbery/laggy feel of the guns, esp. the SMG. The game should have been balanced more like America's Army or BF2 with respect to the guns, instead of like HALO or something. As it sits the gun feel ruins the gameplay for me completely.

The movement is kinda clunky too. I dunno, just feels weird. The rest of it is great.

Only thing that felt a bit clunky is the definitely noticable delay between firing and the bullet hitting.
Like Max Payne. (probably because the time shift deal.)

I found that the default sub machine gun has that effect. There was quite a lag between clicking the mouse and a guy getting hit. But I didn't experience this so much with the other guns.

What is the multiplayer component like?

Nice horror effects but too little of them, I want more horror and less shoot em up

The use of the little girl in the game is a great idea and adds to the "OH SHIT" effect When she appeared at the ladder i really had a fright Nice move.

SlowMo is a nice well done effect.

Singleplayer while nice to have a story is rather limited in its appeal once its been done.

I hope the MultiPlayer component is not an "afterthought" add on with just CTF, DM etc..

I wasnt really that impressed with the demo, too short, not enough horror. The ending was an anticlimax. In short, not a good demo to encourage people to buy this game. At least not me anyway.

I think it's the light. The light color seems wrong to me somehow, as if everything is tinted in some kind of hazy yellow. I did notice that when I played it.

Like I said though, this is probably the first level, so I'm hoping the next levels will pick up where design / feel and hallway-room-hallway syndrome are concerned.

It feels less like a world and more like someone took a chunk of clay and carved these rooms out of it. I don't know exactly how to describe it. Something just a bit funky

Yeah you're def right about that. I'd say the closest thing to it, feeling just a bit off and all, would be the first AvP engine. I get a very similar "chunky" feeling.

I have to say, though, something about the levels feels off. The engine, not the design, I think.

Just DL'd and played the demo. Some highlights, VERY satisfying gun feedback, physics system (which is actually ulilized unlike Doom 3), damn good AI, and the graphics which need some definite fine tuning and optimization. On the downside, the whole "Samara"-esque (The Ring) scare tactics...resembles that of the latest string of crap horror movies that rely on cheap scares to carry the movie and not an actual sense of dread or impending danger.

Yes, it made me jump the first time...but going through the same sequences again was very annoying IMO and just filler. Overall, I think I'm getting this when it's released.

One very memorable "wow" moment was getting a nade tossed near me, when it exploded all the boxes on the shelf went everywhere and the hang-down light went flying wildly, casting light/shadow in all different directions, along with the amazing particle effects. Also, I had a very similar feeling of urgency when fighting the AI in certain situations, much like the first Half Life.

Thanks for the reply, Duc. I was thinking that too. I looked a little more however and found a 6800 (non-GT) 128mb for just under $200 which is also within my budget, so I guess that would be the best of the 3, right? I think the GPU might be a tad slower than the 6600GT, but it does have more pipelines.. hmm. Too many choices.

You are probably better off getting a 6600GT 128 rather than a 6600 256, I might be wrong but thats what memory sugests.
