Dear Diaries

The Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Winter Assault Designer Diary #2 on GameSpot continues this series on the upcoming chilly RTS expansion with thoughts from Relic designer Andrew Chambers, discussing the story in the add-on. Also, the El Matador PC developer diary at games xtreme is written by Petr Smílek, who outlines development on Plastic Reality Technologies' upcoming third-person action game in a journal that takes the form of a Q&A.

one new race.. cool..
still need some more units per side.. maybe some more buildings for defense at listening posts.
DoW is a solid.. A-rate game in its current state.. even though i wish the add-on had a bit more, i'm certain I won't be let down

The Imperial Guard in this will be nothing like the Imperial Guard in the original game. A turtle army, according to the dev diary.

Although I'm not an RTS guy, I absolutely fell in love with this game, and MUST have the expansion. With that said, I too am really disappointed that they didn't decide to include a new race. IG are like new units of the same old human army and, as someone else said, you already got to play them somewhat in the first version (and they weren't too exciting). With Tyranids, Necrons, and Tau obviously missing, I just can't understand why they chose new units of an old race. *shrugs*

But I'll buy it anyways. And if you're really interested, there are mods in development for all of the aforementioned races, some of which are looking like they're shaping up quite nicely. And more human units like Daemonhunters (Grey Knights), Witch Hunters/SoB, Rhino variants, Iron Legion (different slant on IG), and more. There's also a Thousand Suns mod for Chaos that looks like retail quality IIRC. I really should get off my arse and try some of them out.

And best intro movie I've seen in a long time. I hope these guys are returning for the expansion.

Was really surprised I saw this the other day at Best Buy for 20 bucks. Unforently my budget didn't allow for it. But will pick it up Monday
I just wish the people for example who did Warhammers intro movie, would start making CGI Movies. One of the best CGI movies I've seen in along time next to Blizzard.

I loved DoW, and can't wait for this expansion. I hope the SP is a little longer, though.

Hmmm well that explains what they have been doing all this time.

You can choose between order and disorder. Order being the Imperial Guard and eldars, and disorder being a chaos and ork. And depending on how you complete the mssions will determine who goes to the last battle. That sounds fun!

By its release it will only have been a year (or a slight bit less). I wouldn't say that's very long at all. A
playable race is a fairly big addition to an RTS.

[EDIT] Orc campaign?!

And the release date is September, (so says the trailer).

I mean, whatever. They're those jokers that couldn't hold down a group of 2 orc squads and one tank, while they had 7 squads and five tanks. Bunch of wimps. I'm not excited about them at all.

But two words here just fill my soul with happiness :

Orc

Campaign

Must have Winter Assault!

Still a little disappointed this expansion is only including the Imperial Guard. They are fun and all but they really should have put in the Tyranids as well. With how long this thing is taking to put out I'm wondering if they aren't going to surprise everyone and include the tyranids. I don't see them changing the game in a big way here, just adding content and a few new models. A health amount of imperial guard was in the original game so I just don't understand why this didn't come out sooner.
