Diablo II Patches

Diablo II version 1.11 is now available for Blizzard's action/RPG (thanks DiabloII.Net). The update, which can be acquired automatically, closes exploits, addresses bugs, and even adds new content, so as a result, the Battle.Net realms are currently temporarily down. The patch notes outline all that's changed, and the various manual downloads are now available from the Blizzard Entertainment Technical Support Site (thanks Frans).

If you still play D2, and don't have the expansion, then absolutely get it. If you haven't played D2 in a long time, and you're just looking to get into it again, then maybe not. Mainly because you have to get through acts I-IV before the new one, V. The classes and items they added are pretty awesome though.

I really enjoyed the expansion, so I'd say yes.

While I still have my Diablo 2 Collectors Edition (With D20 rules so you too can play Diablo 2 in AD&D!!), I never did purchase the expansion. Is the expansion worth it? I've read they added runes and 2 other classes, but in the end would it be worth shelling out the money for?

Diablo 2 was 640x480. The expansion brought it to 800x600. Still butt ugly, anyway you slice it.

Sure, good graphics don't matter quite as much as good gameplay, but they shouldn't be mutually exclusive, either.

I for one am glad there are simple click games like D2 available. Do you seriously think a beginner gamer wanting to check out PC gaming will be encouraged if they pick up a hot selling PC game like BF2 (and cannot get it to work as designed because of bugs), or Doom 3 (and cannot get it to run properly because of high hardware requirements)?

I am glad D2 was around. Got my wife in to gaming. Now she has moved on to Guild Wars. Will be introducing her to FPS gaming soon enough.

I'll be honest and say I picked up Diablo and started playing it again. It really just is plain and simple fun.

Actually I did the same late last year. I bought D2 when it first came out, but never did get around to finishing it until last year.

It's still definitely an excellent online RPG for people w/low end machines, work being one of them.

Ahem... no comment. (My boss might be reading these forums...)

It really just is plain and simple fun.

Precisely. It's uncomplicated, straight-forward, and relaxing, requiring no more thought than "click on goblin; watch goblin explode; repeat."

When you blow away all the fluff, Diablo is really nothing more than solitaire with a sword. Which is why it remains so popular: it's pure escapism.

I can see a lot of people with laptops wanting a nice game to run on their 3D-challenged machines
