The Cost of Hot Coffee

Hot Coffee burns Take 2 on MCV reflects on the financial impact on Take 2 of the lewd GTA: San Andreas content unlocked via the Hot Coffee mod for the game. Arguing against the saying that there's no such thing as bad publicity, the story states the game's rating change may cause the publisher's revenues to slip to barely over the $1.25 Billion (yeah, with a "B") mark for the year:
The Hot Coffee debacle could cost Take 2 Interactive around $40m in revenues and up to $28m in net income.

The company has been forced to lower its Q3 and full year forecasts after admitting responsibility for the ‘hidden’ sex mini-game in GTA: San Andreas and the subsequent change of the ESRB rating to Adults Only.

As a result, Take 2 is lowering its Q3 fiscal guidance for revenues from a $205-215m to $160-170m. In addition, the publisher’s full year revenues are now expected to be $1.26-1.31 billion, down from $1.30-1.35 billion.

'theAntiELVIS' I couldn't agree with you more. You hit the nail on the head.

I for one commented on how I've *never* been interested in GTA's takes on americana lifestyle...

...BUT, if not for the recent publicity and the hidden shenanigans of Rockstar Games, it prompted me TO invest in combat of the duality of American right wing thinking. What a hypocracy we live in.

I SAY: GIVE US MORE CHOICE.. hide the content so we can decode them at our own expense.

1) Kill a man get a silver star and accolades.
2) Pass a little R&R with some Bedroom behavior and you're a witch fit to be tied and imprisoned.
3) Socker mom's, testicular lacking Dads, and Yahoos from the midwest seem fit to dictate what we on the Western and Eastern hemisphere of the US should carry out our lives morally as i.e: as if their dumb-fuck-ultra christian, ignorance to goverment conduct, and stepfordish mannerism is idea american behavior? HA maybe to a FOB visiting this country for the first time.
4) if parents are so guilded to the trust of watching their kids, WTF are they letting their kids play games that are labeled for mature audiences anyway?

editorial: comment 3 isn't meant as a categorization of all the Midwest but good f-ing percentage and I base this on fact. My bro lives in the Utah and the way people think, his wife, is just outright laughable. For that matter San Lius Obispo, CA is about the same also, a sheepish secular mindset that has a person prejudged before they even have a moment to express an idea.

Yes, thank you. Couldn't agree more. Put the blame squarely where it lies: on Rockstar for pulling a stunt. I don't care how stupid you think the bear is. You don't poke it with a stick.

Kill kill kill all you want to - hell even the government itself will fund games made by the military that are all about killing.

But show some sex and you are worthless evil perverted trash that has to be stopped from destroying the minds of the nation's youth. Because if their minds are destroyed how can we send them to places like Iraq to get them killed killed killed to put money in the scumbag politicians' pockets.

Hey Take2: I don't actually like the GTA games, but if you put in some "hidden content" where I get to shoot worthless politicians and pus bags like this Thompson guy - I'll buy!

This is no longer about GTA:SA.

Ultra-conservative ban-all-videogame types are trying to use this as a stepping stone, a first step to take, in their zealotry.

They were waiting for any game to do it, they dont care about this one.

The more the public/court system 'gives' in to this, the more they will turn around and start persuing every other game out there that can be modded to have sexual content.
And then violence comes next.

All of this is taken way to far. Anyone try it? Its fun for like 2 minute. Then its just boring. Rather get back onto the streets mowing balas down. Who in the world is gonna sit there and do it all day long for fun? Hell, even the body models arent even fully complete.

To me, its just a political grab bag to get your name known.

On a sidenote I wouldn't be entirely surprised if this is some sort of odd damage control on Take 2's part: blaming lower than expected revenues on the GTA:SA situation.

what 17+ yr old doesn't know about headjobs and masterbates,c'mon a 17+ rating is good enough for cartoon sex. I'm more offended by the "f-word" in games than somebody secretly hiding sex in a game.

trying to play Riddick while a 13 yr old is next to ya is a little unnerving. The "surprise" of offending material meaning "bad language", is more offending than some hidden sex scenes in a game, the kids that have the knowledge to find these things probably already have "dirty" magazines under they're matresses anyway.

To all the self proclaimed smart folk out there that just can't be bothered with people making comments that they don't agree with... "STICK IT!" I was ridiculed for making a point on a thread about this topic a few days ago and some 'supperior' Blues News posters out there (who post 20 times a day) said I was wrong and stated "Rockstar will be laughing all the way to the bank" Well, -$40,000,000 is nothing to laugh about you fuckin' know it all's!!!

There's a guy getting head in one of the ingame movies, How come that was never brought up.

True, I remember noticing that and thinking they were quite brave for including it. I suspect it wasn't brought up by the general public and its caretakers because they never tried playing the game, so they wouldn't know unless somebody told them. I guess they don't read BN either.

Except for the fact that many people had been burnt by McDonald's coffee. She was just one in a series. They were keeping their coffee FAR too hot. Not just hot, but ridiculously hot. She had 3rd degree burns on her crotch. Admittedly, it was dumb of her to hold any hot liquid in between her legs. And for that, she's a complete idiot, but the fact remains that others had been burnt and McDonald's wasn't going to change their policy without a lawsuit.

What's the comparison, Tim? That two consenting adults engaging in adultrery is comparable to explicit sex exposed to pre-teens and teens?

Ahh another moron who goes by word of mouth and has no idea what the hell they talking about. There is no explicit sex in the mini game THEY ARE FULLY CLOTHED, THERE IS NO NUDITY. But dont feel too bad, even the fricken media didnt bother to even try it out before declareing that it was some kind of XXX porno, they also reported by word of mouth. The whole world is full of gossipy old ninies.

Game designers should try to make some more ADULT games without nudity and demonic over tones.

Fixed!
