The Cost of Hot Coffee

Hot Coffee burns Take 2 on MCV reflects on the financial impact on Take 2 of the lewd GTA: San Andreas content unlocked via the Hot Coffee mod for the game. Arguing against the saying that there's no such thing as bad publicity, the story states the game's rating change may cause the publisher's revenues to slip to barely over the $1.25 Billion (yeah, with a "B") mark for the year:
The Hot Coffee debacle could cost Take 2 Interactive around $40m in revenues and up to $28m in net income.

The company has been forced to lower its Q3 and full year forecasts after admitting responsibility for the ‘hidden’ sex mini-game in GTA: San Andreas and the subsequent change of the ESRB rating to Adults Only.

As a result, Take 2 is lowering its Q3 fiscal guidance for revenues from a $205-215m to $160-170m. In addition, the publisher’s full year revenues are now expected to be $1.26-1.31 billion, down from $1.30-1.35 billion.

the thing is, incidents like this are used to build political careers, set legal precedents, and as excuses for
MORE REGULATION.

the "Rock Stars" (aka arrogant pricks) at Rockstar think they're all l33t and kewl for pulling this frat boy stunt, when all they've done is make things even more difficult for the entire development community.

not that "Rock Stars" ever give a damn for how their actions affect anyone else.
