The RAM part is true, but serial ATA doesn't make a noticable difference unless it's in a RAID.
Here is a helpful link for tweaking yer PC and BF2:

However my 9800 128mb AIW runs BF2 like crap! Nearly everything is at low detail and still it chugs. Doesn't seem right for a DX9 card but I have read others are having ATI performance issues with BF2.
Can't confirm that. I'm playing BF2 on an Athlon 64 3000, 1 gig dual channel DDR RAM, radeon 9800 pro 128 mb with everything set to medium details except textures and geometry set to HIGH and 2x FSAA. Runs great and I think the problem with most systems is a slow HDD / RAM. Having a fast S-ATA HDD and dual channel RAM helps A LOT, believe me. |

I am at the end of my rope. The game is now crashing 100% of the time when loading maps. I have updated my chipset drivers, video drivers (plus several differing versions) I swapped out my sound card thinking that perhaps there was a conflict with the realtek drivers, I've tried countless settings in the game, refresh rates, ATi tweaks, I've re-installed the game several times along with trying both the patched and unpatched versions, messed with Bios settings.... none of it works....NONE!
I will post my specs in hopes someone here may have an idea.

As much as I love Red Orchestra when they have a commander system, squad system, a better voicecom, THEN you can tell me Red Orchestra >> BF2 and I'll believe you.

v5.2 for me. I stopped upgrading because of the digital audio problem that is slow when viewing on TV. Analog audio works well, but ATI decided to dump that.
I am sick of upgrading too. BF2 works well with this driver. |

These are the only games I've been playing for the last few months. I must be the only one that had HORRIBLE problems when I had my Nvida 5600. My new 800xl with catalyst 5.6 drivers have played every game including BF2 flawlessly.
By the way....Red Orchestra >>> BF2

Well I had the exact opposite experience with my 256mb 9800xt (no oc), with the BF2 demo in singelplayer, i turned the res as far as I could (TFT) even bumped up with 4xfsaa and could n't find a hitch what so ever. nuff said the demo was not installed long thoug, this kinda game demands a close circle of friends preferably all with military background, you know to actally know how important chain of command actually can be as well as acting in a way that signigfies organised purpose.

Sorry, but comparing the 7 core to ATI's x core is like comparing the 9800 to the 6800. Of course it's faster. It's NVidia's nextgen core. When ATI releases their own nextgen core, then you have an argument.
You were far better off comparing the 6200 to x200 or x300 results.

Anything from ATi that improves performance in HL2 is fine by me. Ditto here, though the game runs great on my new x800.
Being loyal to any one brand, such as ATI, Nvidia, AMD, Intel, etc. does nothing but short change yourself. Buy which ever one will work the best for you at the time, screw what brand it is. Very good advice, everyone pay attention now.

This thread is mostly BS..
The Radeon Cards run BF2 better than Nvidia cards. Look at any benchmark numbers you chose to. If you cant get it to run right on your system then YOU are just doing something wrong.

I have both cards, two machine.
The AMD64/XP with Nividia 6800GT oc'd to Ultra speeds plays BF2 with the BF2DVD/Nividia drivers at 1600X1200 all details on high on any multiplaye game, not one glitch. Smooth as silk. Then again I just rebuilt the machine last night so this may not last.
However my 9800 128mb AIW runs BF2 like crap! Nearly everything is at low detail and still it chugs. Doesn't seem right for a DX9 card but I have read others are having ATI performance issues with BF2.
Too bad, I like having a friend come over to hook up on this great BF2 game!
