Ghost Recon 3 PC Smiles on GRIN, Title Confirmed?

The GRIN Website (thanks Frans) has word that this Swedish developer (BANDITS: Phoenix Rising) is at work on the PC edition of Ghost Recon 3, which follows a previous mention that they were "working with Ubisoft to develop the PC version for the upcoming installment of one of the publisher’s major brands." Scrolling over on this wacky page reveals the following announcement, which also seems to confirm recent reports (story) that Advanced War Fighter, or actually Advanced Warfighter, will be the game's subtitle:
Official announcement STOCKHOLM - June 23 2005 - Today, GRIN is proud to confirm that they are developing the PC version for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter™. Working in close collaboration with Ubisoft's studios, GRIN is delighted to bring its expertise to the next installment on Windows® PC DVD-ROM of the smash-hit squad based shooter franchise.

GRIN has strong experience in military applications (they started developing software for the armed forces). They distinguished themselves in developing groundbreaking technology; GRIN made the first game to feature pixel shaders in cooperation with Nvidia for the launch of the GeForce 3.

They said the same thing about Ghost Recon 2 and we all know how well that one turned out.

No, they said that they were taking extra time to ensure that the port didn't feel half assed, not that they were developing a whole seperate game.

Could Ghost Recon 3 conceivably be cancelled? Sure any game can. Could Ghost Recon 3 potentially suck? Sure it could, especially with a developer with such a spotty track record. That's not however what I'm arguing against. All I am saying is that Ubi has announced that the PC version will be a seperate game that is designed specifically for the PC audience. That was stated when GR3 was announced and when GR2PC was cancelled.

You all seem set to demonize Ubisoft. Yeah, Rainbow 6 and Ghost Recon have shifted from a primarily pc focus to a primarily console focus, which blows. Ubisoft does seem to be going out of it's way, at least in comparison to other major publishers, to make sure the PC audience at least gets something designed specifically for them.

This thread has the requisite bitching about Ghost Recon 2's cancellation. My opinion was that was an intelligent decision on Ubisoft's part. GR2 PC was going to a port nothing more, albeit a port with redone texture and the like but still the same core game and gameplay. The PC audience was complaining to no end about the changes made to GR2 and would most likely not have bought and enjoyed the game. Ubisoft was left in a position of either launching GR2: The Console Port, cancelling GR2 PC, or scrapping what they had and redesigning GR 2 for the PC. My guess would be that everyone here would have preferred the third option. GR3 however was right around the corner and PC users would've ended up getting their GR2 well after the console playing world had played and gotten tired of GR3. Ubisoft therefore made the decision to make a PC specific version of GR3 that could be released in a reasonable (relative to a PC redesigned GR2) amount of time.

Now, does all of this mean that GR3 PC will be a good game that lives up to GR1? No, of course not and I would never argue that. What it does mean is that Ubisoft's marketing department realized that GR2 as is was not going to be a hit with the PC market so they made the decision to launch a PC specific GR3. The fact of the matter is that PC gaming is increasingly becoming irrelevent in the major publishers eyes. While Ubisoft isn't giving us fully what we deserve it's still giving us something, which is a lot more than EA would do.
