I'm sorely disappointed in you all. Only 40 posts?

I'm torn whether I should pick this up. I love an FPS, and I enjoyed myself in Tribes 2 (until it got brutally nerfed and slaughtered), but the idea of being FORCED to play with internet roaches just to play at all just doesn't do it for me...

Ah well, I have four more hours to decide.

"About BF2 full, hows the other maps? Any that are as big as El Alamein from Bf1942 or really close quarters?"

You might want to check out the Gamespy series of map previews/tactics from the complete game. Think they're on Part 4 now...

See, this is an issue with game reviews in general. Review scores are predominantly based on how well a developer pulls off what they were attempting. Just because you don't necessarily still enjoy what BF2 brings to the table doesn't mean it deserves low reviews or to be faulted.

Hell, if reviews worked like you mention, every Age of Empires/Empire Earth/Rise of Nations whatever style RTS game that comes out from here on (including AoE 3) deserves to get panned miserably, cus personally I've always really disliked that style of RTS.

That was stage one of my marketing campaign to get ppl to buy BF2. Now that everyone has been saturated the "OMFG BF2 is COMING!!!" posts appear in the threads without my help :).

Valve sucks. Running a clean install on my system with new vid card and have not installed Steam or any valve crap. Am so friggin happy it is gone.

And again if anyone has not tried FEAR it is absolutely outstanding. You can get it off fileplanet for free. Is only a Multiplayer test but the gameplay on it is extremely impressive. If nothing else the video card test that comes with it, a 60 sec advertisement for the full game, will really test your hardware.

Thanks for the help. I am running XP, and I have a GB of ram. I just downloaded the 5.6 Catalysts again, this time without the catalyst control center (we'll see if this makes a difference). It seems like such a horrible lockup that I'd blame the overall stability of my system, except for that it's rock solid in normal use and also in CS:S (the other game I play frequently).

As with almost any computer issue, I'm sure this is resolvable. I just hope it doesn't take hours of looking at message boards and numerous tweaks to get there...

Lastly, I'm considering upgrading to an X800XL or 6800GT which might fix the problem (as a bonus to the performance improvement in general), but at the very least I'd like to wait til the prices settle down due to the impending G70 release; that might mean a month of playing buggy BF2 or *gasp* no BF2 at all!

Must be something outside of your hardware because I run the demo on my 2.8gig P4,533FSB with a gig of PC2700 and an ATI 9700pro running the 5.6cats. Never a crash yet and I have all set to High with the exception of dyn.lights and texture filtering. 1024x768 WinXP Pro also.
You are ahead of me in all catagories it seems.
You running it on XP ?
Enough Ram ??
Hope the full fixes you issues friend. We need every soldier with half a brain in there to balance out the ST's !

Good luck !

I'm in the last level, when you open the door and it's a bunch of rocket launcher guys around lava. Took me like 8 tries, but I finally killed the last one

Is that the one where you can move a chair down to the door and keep it open while you pick off all the guys that come up to it?

Unfortunately the EU couldn't reach a consensus on the color of their uniforms, so they opted out of this one
maybe patch 0.666 will fix that.

When I click to go back into the game, it disappears, so I lost all my work.

I could be reading this wrong, and I never played Far Cry, but, it sounds like the game wasn't handling not being foreground. If that's the case, don't blame your ISP... blame shitty coding : )

Arggghhh! That level was next to impossible for me. Took me ALOT more than 8 times.

If you get up close to the door, they clip thru it to the point where you can damage them. Hey, it's not cheating!

heh, curious list of choices, add the EU and you could fight The Battle of Armageddon as described in Revelation. Is John the Apostle listed in the design credits?

Yeah, but I keep AIM on at all times, and my ISP going down meant AIM threw a fit. My ire could just as easily be at AIM for taking the focus of my PC, or Microsoft for allowing their error message to bump me out of a game. But the ISP is easier to complain about.

I already killed Kreiger, so I think I'm close. I'm playing on medium, so things are easier. Any higher and I'd be pissed off. Parts of the game have been easy, but dying pisses me off when it's about 5-10 minutes since a checkpoint, so higher difficulty would just make me stop playing. But these past two levels have been a bitch at times.

I'm liking the game much more than I expected, idiot 1990s plot/character design aside. Easily one of the best games I've played in a while.

Arggghhh! That level was next to impossible for me. Took me ALOT more than 8 times. You're not quite at the end if I remember. Question, what does your ISP have to do with Far Cry? You don't need to be online to play the single player portion of the game.

I did the steps in that IGN BF2 optimization and it helped noticeably. I think it was mostly the TuneXP steps as most of my video properties were already set at recommended settings. If you're not happy with your BF2 performance (or even windows xp performance) this was worthwhile.
