Out of the Blue

Happy Summer! Unless of course, you live below the equator, in which case, happy winter!

In addition to the solstice, today is also the day Battlefield 2 should be first appearing on store shelves, I'm looking forward to some modern warfare action. If the demo has proven anything to me, though, it's that I'm be best suited to the role of a grunt. I can sort of be trusted to operate a tank, but even that is pushing it towards the Peter Principle... Among all those with ambitions to command or be a hot-shot flyboy, I'll be the guy asking what my orders are.

The commander screen is pretty cool, in fact it's probably my favorite way to play BF2. Setting up a UAV, zooming in, and then telling a squad exactly where each individual bad guy at the spawn is makes the game for me. The only real problem I have with it is I probably spend about half the time asking people to "please join a squad. if you arn't in a squad please join one". If any of you play on public servers join a fucking squad so I can give you instructions!
Ok, so maybe it'll grow on me if I give it a chance, but I'm mostly too exhausted nowadays with a demanding job and two small kids, that all I want is something that I already know so I can just blast away! This last week, though, I've woke up in bed in the middle of the night, still with clothes on and my oldest kid sleeping next to me...

I, personally, don't WANT to have to deal with being a commander, too much strategy.

Movie about a boxer in the 30s. Who fucking cares?

People who like good movies? I'd guess it was the title that caused the movie to flop. I mean for fucks sake, Cinderella Man? The title alone almost stopped me from seeing it. It was an incredibly well done movie though.

Anyone else notice the absolute glut of 'horror/scary' movies.

Seriously it gets old. Once youve seen one (the grudge which sucked so bad it doesent deserve capitalisation), you then realise when watching trailers for all the others that they are all the same. Obvious? maybe, but it reinforces the notion in Joe Blow's mind there making him not want to see the same crap day in day out.

Im actually hoping that Hollywood will suffer from this enough that it will force them to give true talent a chance and try to make something different and intresting, case in point, Sarah Michelle Geller has been signed up to play Alice, in Alice in wonderland, and not the one based off the book, but the one based off the game...

If Hollywood actually makes a film that offends fans of the original by portraying the Alice world as something dark and twisted then ill be back on HW's side. All this pandering to the lowest common denominator is pissing me off. Make a film that challenges me on multiple levels and makes me say, "You know, this is an intresting view on the books version of events, making me go back to read it in a new light"

On an offtopic (but not by much) note, I watched Phantom of The Opera on sunday, on the way home my significant other was pissed, I mean she was fuming... why? Because she hated the fact that these obviously massivly talented individuals are up on stage singing and acting and getting paid crap. While 50 Cent and co. 'rap' (Used int he loosest sense of the word) about the same thing (They all do, every damn one of them raps abnout the samn damn thing, even most of the lyrycs from song (ug) to song (ug) are the same), while getting paid millions.

The fact that the lowest common denominator rakes in cash for having no talent is quite possibly a greater crime than pol pot (maybe).

Where are the rewards for those who have talent and bring true innovation to the table? there is none, to all the Phantom singers and MC Chris's of the world, you have my heartfelt sympathy and financial support, the rest of you, go away and die.

I loved that HBO Don King movie (Only in America I think it was called), a similar movie about Tyson would be hilarious.

yeah RotS has been rather disappointing, really. It's at what, 200 mill or so? That's pretty crappy for a Star Wars movie.

As for commercials, it may just be here in Tulsa, but we no longer get them. Just 20 minutes of trailers, which I enjoy.

I'm surprised theres no mention of SW ROTS thats raked in a shitload of money.

It's still raked in a lot less money than was expected, and less money on a weekly basis as compared to the movies from last year. This is Hollywood's worry -- there is negative growth in box office receipts compared to a year ago.

And I agree that it's largely due to a lack of good movies being out.

I agree with you creston, except the kids part, theres some kids movies out and I dont think they are the gravy of the movie industry. It boils down to just plain crappy movies, if they thought those 4 movies were hits they need to get there heads out of there asses. Also one thing that has turned me off of going to the theaters is the fricken 20min of commercials. I dont pay to see god damn commercials, screw them. Theaters are only for the huge special effect blockbusters for me now, everything else is DVD, and LOL those four they listed dont even make my DVD list.

EDIT I'm surprised theres no mention of SW ROTS thats raked in a shitload of money.

Movie Industry : Whaaa whaa whaaaaaa. that's nothing new.

The expensive flops include pedigreed films such as "Cinderella Man" and "Kingdom of Heaven," as well as what should have been action blockbusters: "XXX: State of the Union" and "Elektra."

Okay, let's see :

Cinderella man - Movie about a boxer in the 30s. Who fucking cares? Do a movie about Mike Tyson, and people might relate. Furthermore, after the debacle where Million Dollar Fucking Baby won 874 Oscars, people are banning boxing movies out of spite.

One ESPN columnist summed it up well, "The only boxing movie we haven't seen yet is about a nazi prison guard pretending he's disabled so he can box in the special olympics."
One day after he wrote that, a script was submitted in Hollywood for Franz Gunther Der Moron Boxer.

Kingdom of Heaven - Bit surprised that this didn't do well, since it looked pretty good. Then again, I didn't go see it either. Too much of a good thing I guess. See boxing movies.
Hint to Hollywood : try something new.

XXX: State of the Union - FOR FUCK'S SAKE, it's a movie with ICE FUCKING CUBE. WHY DO YOU THINK NOBODY WENT TO SEE IT?

Elektra - This has to be the author taking the piss at someone. I mean, nobody liked Daredevil, so obviously Hollywood execs thought "Well, let's spin off one character and make a movie about that! That'll get people into the theaters!"

Yeah sure.

Sigh, I swear, only the world's biggest fucking retards decide which movies get made in Hollywood.

And then they're hoping that Batman Begins is going to be the big blockbuster? It's a COMIC BOOK CHARACTER.

The real reason this season has sucked so far for the box offices is that there haven't been any good kids movies out so far. Parents take their kids to the movies, and the kids will happily want to go six times to see it.
No kids movies = sucky year in the box office.

End of story.

There was a game like bunnykill where bunnies fell from the sky and you had to shoot them with a machine gun or a rocket launcher.

What was it called?

After playing the demo I'm going to wait until the first big patch comes out before picking up BF2, as it clearly has loads of potential but also clearly needs some serious bug stomping.

Anyway, I've got San Andreas to play
