Out of the Blue

Today's the day that Batman Begins, well, begins. Batman is in the pantheon of my favorite superheroes, and while the two Tim Burton movies had their moments, the dark knight has never quite overcome the campy treatment the franchise has received in the 60s TV series and then after at the hands of the dread Joel Schumacher (holy rubber nipples Batman!). This one looks like it has the ability to overcome the combined horrors of the past, and I am optimistic enough that I will try to make it out to see a matinee showing today.

Besides (jumps up and down on couch)... I LOVE Katie Holmes!!

Thanks. You've really helped me lose my faith in mankind for the moment. God, B&B need to be beaten. How the f*** could it NOT be Trek!? You take it, and MAKE it Trek! Just because the main cast is doing something else most of the time doesn't mean they can't be Trek at the same time.

They really should define "Trek", and if they define it as a "feeling they have", then they need to be decapitated with the Joyland rollercoaster, because they'll never pull the series out of the dogsh*t taco they've put it in with their lack of originality and lack of desire to do something different.

I think a series that has a small, capable cast that "jumps around" from ship to ship rather than a series that limits itself to one or two different ships would be incredibly cool, maybe as part of an organization (maybe Section 31) that ferrets out problems inside and outside the Federation. Make it part Star Trek, part James Bond, and part Sherlock Holmes, with oodles and oodles of guest stars for an episode or two, or more. God knows, they might have enough old sets from the previous shows to pull it off.

Wow, so much of today applies, in some way, to me.

No one has talked much about how Ken Watanabe was in Batman Begins... So, how did he do?

As someone who was born and has lived in Wichita for most of his life, I've been to Joyland many times and went on the wooden rollercoaster. Part of the unique experience with Joyland's rollercoaster is the *fear* that you might win that "lottery" mentioned earlier, which makes it so much more fun. Too bad it's closed right now; I can't wait to ride on it again.

I've always loved Star Trek, so I'm hoping that the series not only survives, but also flourishes again. Meaning, one of those monkies needs to come up with something that either 1. People want to see or 2. is unique and interesting. Captain Sulu? George Takei is almost 70 years old, so unless they got someone else to be him that could actually BE HIM, that's kind of out of the question, unless it was a little "different". Jonathan Frakes being Captain Riker is a good idea, except for the fact that he IS getting a little old, and a little tubby. If we go by the actor's ages, Patrick Stewart is 14 years older than Frakes, so it wouldn't be impossible for him to follow the captaining style of Picard... He just, uh, needs to do some crunches or something.

I think a series that has a small, capable cast that "jumps around" from ship to ship rather than a series that limits itself to one or two different ships would be incredibly cool, maybe as part of an organization (maybe Section 31) that ferrets out problems inside and outside the Federation. Batman/Bruce Wayne Doesen't know who killed his parents (AFAICR, it was a random mugger)...

SST:

He knew... it was a guy named Joe Chill, just like in the new movie. This wasn't the case from the very start in 1939, but by the time I started reading the comics, this had been clearly established (just looked it up... the mugger was dubbed Joe Chill in 1949, and it was indeed actually a mob hit disquised as a failed mugging).

The Joker killing the Waynes was clumsy overkill in the first Burton flick... In the comics Bruce has more than enough fuel to go batty without that, and more than enough reason to hate the Joker without an added motive.

Batman/Bruce Wayne Doesen't know who killed his parents (AFAICR, it was a random mugger), and for a good reason; the narrative imperative. It's necessary for the story that he is on a neverending quest for revenge that can never be fulfilled.

First of all in the comic books JOKER DID NOT KILL BRUCE"S PARENTS. it happed almost identical to the way it was portrayed in this flick. Except in the comics the common mugger is never cought.

Another example of how people need to know what the heck they are talking about or SHUT UP.

10/10

Perhaps the best Comic Book adaptation of all time. Spiderman was Good , but they had a little to much Cheese that just didnt have to be there.

This movie actually has you believe that someone that Crazy and driven with the money could become Batman. Bale is Aweosme, Alfred, Fox, Gordon, all top notch characters. Liem Was outstanding and totally cast against type.

I really wonder who will play Joker in the next movie. I want someone who is a serious actor and not a big ticket name. No idea who to pick yet but it could be anyone. Actually,, Rutger Haugher could play Joker in some wierd twist of fate for revenge based on what happens to him in this flick.

I really want to see other Superhero movies have the "powers" and constumes and leave the Cheese behind like this one does.

I concur on liking Batman Begins, I will score it an 8.5 (Batman w/ Joker being a 9.5).

But one thing bothered the hell out of me...

SST

What was the deal with the trashing of the Joker-killed-my-parents idea? It was just completely ignored. I know comics arn't much for linearity, but I would expect more from the movies.

Fortunately, Anet DOES have a brain, and they fixed last week's issue :

Fixed issues with last week's update that could cause loot drops to completely stop for some players after repeated map entries, and substantially improved the loot system so that only the most extreme forms of farming will cause monsters to start to run low on loot

For those of you who said this was never an issue

----- >

I'm glad they fixed it (just tested it, Shauna is actually getting drops again), because it was seriously ruining my enjoyment of the game.

Back to official WOOT status on GW.

Some thoughts:

Halle Berry should fuck off and die. I don't see what's so special. A poor actress inside a not-as-stunning-as-she-thinks-she-is body.. yawn. Welcome to the world that made Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey famous

Mr & Mrs Smith is fun. It's not a good film, and what's-her-face still cannot act. Jolie is (also) not as good looking as her pout would suggest. But in an "Ocean's 12 was fun but no good" way ot's a great date movie. But no, it's no Pulp Fiction. It's also no Sin City (;et-s plug that fantastic film IMO).

Batman... well.... Christian Bale is great (American Psycho is a fantastic book, and a good film) and Batman needs a revival. Let's see.

Well if I was to 'fix' Trek I would either go with what the fans wanted a Excelsior/Sulu series, or go with series based off the Excalibur books.

And if Riker got his own show I would love to see the Borg Expert lady who was up for Rikers position, be his first officer.

But the biggest selling point of the Trek movies was 2-4 where you had an ongoing story. But for the love of god, don't make it Enterprise, and quit with the A-B-C crap.

And my Auto Assault Beta was postponed to tomorrow

Just got back from seeing it myself and I concur it's a good film. Good - not great, but worth seeing in the theater. Bale is hands down, absolutely perfect in the role. Anyone who's watched American Psycho (and if you haven't, what are you waiting for - it's an amazing film) could have told you he was ideal for the role. I'd give it a 7/10.

This is one of those films that doesn't really have anything bad about it, but more of a series of great moments that make it shine. When Batsy gives the Scarecrow a taste of his medicine is one of those moments - just awesome. Definitely not a film for the kids as it is pretty dark and scary.

Thanks for the non-spoiler review/endorsement - looks like I'll have to make an effort to see this one on the big screen. Just too damn busy to go as often as I would like....
