Wow! 2M Playing WoW!

World of Warcraft Achieves New Milestone with Two Million Paying Subscribers is the press release announcing a new subscription threshold achieved by Blizzard's MMORPG, with further breakthroughs expected when the game launches in China:
World of Warcraft recently surpassed the two million mark for paying subscribers. Already the largest MMO in both North America and Europe, Blizzard expects to see even greater growth with the recent commercial launch in China on June 7, 2005. Anticipation for World of Warcraft was already at an all-time high in China, with peak concurrency during the open beta test topping 500,000 players, nearly equal to World of Warcraft's peak concurrency in all three current markets combined. Blizzard expects to see the new mark of two million subscribers shattered quickly with the arrival of players from China in the coming weeks.

My issue with WoW became essentially that -- once you're L60 all of the instances become massive time sucks. It takes several hours to do any of the above (excepting, perhaps, Onyxia -- but merely getting the key for her takes several multi-hour expeditions in BRD), which is a drastic departure from the previous gameplay, even in instances (Maur could take several hours if you do the entire thing, but each "section" only takes 60-90 mins).

I simply don't have that kind of time... I have maybe two hours a night to play games. More than that and I'm eating into sleep.

So my account is cancelled now... I guess I could've restarted a new character and explored the world that way, but I really wasn't interested in doing that. Blizzard could've restructured the high end instances to be doable in shorter chunks, but it seems like they explicitly decided to do the exact opposite.

Compaired to Everquest that's nothing. Like getting flags from the diffrent planes. One of my main reasons why I don't play Everquest anymore. Whats really interesting is that until the last few expansions there was no Quest in EQ except for your epic weapons and class armor (which was painfully outdated by each expansion).

The biggest plus for me with WoW is that there really isn't a need for grinding unless for money. As you progress through the area's you get stronger and typically given a few other places to go that are your level to keep ya moving.

And if the made the high end instances doable in shorter chunks like you suggest then everyone would be bitching that they are too short and don't have enough content and everyone has already done them 50 times.
