Wow! 2M Playing WoW!

World of Warcraft Achieves New Milestone with Two Million Paying Subscribers is the press release announcing a new subscription threshold achieved by Blizzard's MMORPG, with further breakthroughs expected when the game launches in China:
World of Warcraft recently surpassed the two million mark for paying subscribers. Already the largest MMO in both North America and Europe, Blizzard expects to see even greater growth with the recent commercial launch in China on June 7, 2005. Anticipation for World of Warcraft was already at an all-time high in China, with peak concurrency during the open beta test topping 500,000 players, nearly equal to World of Warcraft's peak concurrency in all three current markets combined. Blizzard expects to see the new mark of two million subscribers shattered quickly with the arrival of players from China in the coming weeks.

Of all those subscribers, how many are actually playing on a regular basis?

I'm sure Blizzard doesn't really care though, as long as they are subscribers, Blizzard is getting their money.

Tax Man at 40 Pecent at all ends of the money movement leaves them 360,000,000 * 0.60 = 216000000. I couldlive with that =)

$15 a month X 2,000,000 = $30,000,000 a month = $360,000,000 a year.

I seriously doubt they'll be charging $15 a month in China. They can't afford that, what with the manufacture & stockpiling of weapons for the coming invasion of Taiwan & Japan.

VU Games owns Blizzard Entertainment. That being the case, you can bet they are taking the vast majority of the profits from this title.

that all this money is going to VU Games and not to Blizzard

Huh? VU is simply the publisher... they get money from the box sales, but AFAIK they don't get a dime from the monthly fees.

Stopped playing nearly a month ago... keep meaning to login to send my gold and various items to friends, but haven't taken the time to do so (and only 3 days left on the account).
