Nuns with rulers! Just like in Blues Brothers and Charlies Angels!

But I agree, I worked in a Toys R Us during Xmas once and it was a nightmare. And also at Lego's Shop during Thanksgiving-January down here at Walt Disney World. There are children that should be beaten senseless, but at the same time parents should be beaten as well. You will have children screaming, hitting, kicking, abusing the parent for something they want. And the parents will just stand there and take it.

And being 30, I can vividly remember the times I got my ass beat for stepping out of line. And let me tell ya I never did it again.

And also I do beleive children are way to easy to medicate instead of looking at the problem at hand. When I was 14, my mom took me to the City of Hope Hospital in Southern California for testing of Hyperactivity etc. They drew blood and what not, but the thing was they outright said before hand they would NOT tell us the results of any of the tests, and suggested I was put on ritlin. Well we didn't go that route, but I have recently come to realize that maybe I should have been. So later this month I am going and doing the testing/etc for Adult ADD, as I have alot of problems with holding jobs, completing tasks etc that from looking at my personal history, can be attributed to many things in my past. Now I am not saying this is/will be the answer to the problem, but I was in theropy from age 5 till 16, and hope this will be an answer to my lack of finishing things.

But I think medicating children should be close to last resort for behavior issues.

Ya know... Warhawk owes me bigtime now. 22 hours of work or not!

Actually, it was 22 hrs w/o sleep (only about 11 hours of work), but right now I'm up to 30 hours and I probably will be up at least another 1 or 2 because our 2 year old doesn't go to sleep before 9:30 or 10....

Of course, it kept me laughing my ass off much of the afternoon...

I guess you guys just keep me around for entertainment value, huh?

Yeah, I kinda figured that since the second one I did not mention evolution at all :).

But you could say how great my second post was too! I not only try and clear up confusion, I also offer solid reasoning why I come to my conclusions; and then I throw in personal opinion and make sure it is separate and clearly personal opinion!

Yes, I think you should also say good marks about that post as well!

To bring it on subject, it is just like a kid getting a gold star sticker on school work! Heh

Understood. I do not support the willy-nilly medicating of children. In fact our son has never been medicated for his condition despite the 'suggestion' of one specialist. I'm glad we decided against it.

I think you would agree that your son’s condition is on a whole different level than what we are talking about. It is in fact a condition or disability by the strictest definitions (no matter the severity).

I do believe the Batman was talking about (and what I was talking about later) is people using medication on there children because they do not want to study history, or they have learned that if they pitch a “hissy fit” in the store the parents give in and give them the candy…but the parents do not want the “hissy fit” so they think medication will change it, not discipline.

My next-door neighbor is a grade school principle, I have helped her out a lot with science related projects and stuff for the kids…I have had MANY parents apologize to me be for perfectly normal and rational behavior and say they do not know why the medicine is not working to solve it.

I think public schools should be ran like military schools (but with more emphasis on the book learnin’s). Since nowhere else are these kids getting any real discipline.

I guess I should just say thanks for giving me the less than 5% possibility that my son (and many other peoples children) has a real issue.

going to chime in here as well. As Batman said it wasent an attack, however i believe that a high percentage of these 'disabilities' have nothing to do with the child and everything to do with the parent, and in their defense they use the symptoms that afflict the few (which you may well fit into) to cover for themselves.

Without knowing anything about your position I cant comment on your case and so rely on a degree of trust that you are in fact telling the truth, and in the same way would hope that the trust is receprocated when I say I have seen this countless times and it infuriates me no end to see people use other peoples actual symptoms to cover for their own failings.

So again, this isnt ment as an attack on you, nor is it ment to discredit you, and if infact you fall into the 5% then good, it means that your not just trying to con the system and society in general.

For the record I do.

What is sounds like it you think it is ok that doctors give riddilin out to children without properly diagnosing them. I wasn't giving you the 5% possibility that your son has a real issue, I am saying children are over medicated.

What I can speak from is personal experience of the people I know. Of the multiple (not 3-4 but closer to 20 or so) people I know, the ones that are on meds, don't need to be. They just aren't disciplined. I would imagine this is the case for well over 95% of the kids that are medicated. (and I don't think 95% is high enough, but I am giving people the benefit of the doubt)

I agree most kids that are on medicine for behavioral disorders do not need to be.

It seems a lot of people with kids are under the impression that if there kids are not perfect as kids they can not succeed in life…and they are also under some odd belief that medicine can make your kid perfect.

That is the whole point of being a kid…having a childhood…learning how to deal with things…with your own short comings, ect.

If that was not a vital part of existence nature would have evolved so we became adults physically in just a few years…not 25.

Bronco, you seem like a standup individual, so I am not going to get into any disagreement about your child, cause we don't know eachother - and it would be ridiculous for me to say anything about your parenting style.

Kids learn fast that if they misbehave not only do they get to move shit, they also get to starve in the process. parent dicsipline is just as important as disciplining a child.

My fiance' had it pretty bad actually. Grew up on a farm in Wisc. subsistance and all. 3 brothers. When they got into trouble, they had to pick rock. And if you don't know what that is, then you have never been harshly disciplined!

ok fine, for you city folk. In the midwest, a lot of the land is glacier fallout, therefore there is a lot of rock in the earth. No matter how much rock (small pebbles up to rocks bigger than a tractor) you pick (pick means to remove from the field) it keeps coming up through the soil. To "pick rock" is to bend over and remove the rock by hand from the ground, sometimes you could just pick it up others you had to dig a bit. This is done year around, year after year.

We were able to afford a mechanical rock picker (when I say 'we' I mean the farming counsins, unlces, etc - my dad moved away from the farm before he had me), but my fiance and her brothers would be out there until 10-11 pm with a tractor light loading rock into the tractor bucket. All 4 of them turned out pretty damn good!

Don't be so quick to judge another person and their parenting decisions until you know all of the circumstances regarding the behavior you are seeing.

This is the genetic fat person argument.

In your case this could very well be a case of any actual disability, in the case provided though the child was 'cured' after being put thru a few months of hard work and reward/punishment. I dotn believe that this is a disability. A disability by its very nature is not something that can be lightly cured, otherwise it would be reffered to as a 'phase' or other brief illness type thing.

As for the fat statement, its kinda a digression but its something that annoys me nonetheless. which is fat people claiming that genetics make people fat. Fair enough in a few cases, but overall too much food and too little exercise are the root cause. Its an argument where the cases of the many are explained away by the symptoms of the few...

Seriously, it's doable to live a very nice life on one income. Let's give a personal example, shall we? We went from a 2 income household to 1 income (with me in school). Our quality of life is still quite high. We think longer about toy purchases, but we are still quite indulgent.

Oh, yeah - the one income we lost...was the higher of the two.

Since we had kids and my wife gave up her teaching job we've 'sacrificed' an obscene amount in earnings. Needless to say our lives are not what they could have been. All the same we are ok - I worry now where in the distant past I did not.

Ultimately I think it's better with one parent at home and I don't see much to support anything but that if you can stretch and make that happen.

As for the spanking. As a parent of a child with a developmental disability I can safely say that if you met him you would think that at times he is in need of stiff discipline. In reality it's the last thing he needs. Don't be so quick to judge another person and their parenting decisions until you know all of the circumstances regarding the behavior you are seeing.
