BF2 Demo Exclusive?

Battlefield Nation has word from a video interview with producer Scott Evans saying the Battlefield 2 demo, planned for release this Friday (story) will have an as-yet undefined period of exclusivity on GameSpot's GameCenter service: "Yeah, you guys are gonna have an exclusive period on the demo where you have to go to GameCenter to get it." These exclusives are sometimes actually in essence just premieres.

LAME!

Can we get a bluesnews FTP setup somewhere?
Anyone?
Bueller?

How can they possibly say it is going to be out, and then call it a "premiere". This must be because of that whole DICE thing.

Seeding it only does so much good when it requires a unique key from the lameness, assuming it follows normal fileplanet exclusivity rules.

I don't get it in this case. Battlefield has a pretty big following, especially if you count the people who loathe them for their errors in previous titles in the series. Exclusivity deals are becoming horribly annoying, especially if you're cheap. Maybe that's the root cause of my annoyance. Nice to see it's not a FilePlanet exclusive, though.

That E3 comment had been known for a while, though I always chalked it up to be the same credibility as that newer Australian forum release date. I'm surprised a Battlefield fansite took this long to make that news known.

If it is true, does a free Gamespot account provide access to GameCenter for this sort of thing?

Fuck you Scott Evans. Maybe instead of sucking gamespot's dick, you can first fix the popin/drawin that we will see in BF2.

No, only pay gamespot complete accounts will get access to Gamecenter. I'm going to sit on the side of sanity and go with what Blue said, as Gamespot has been the point of many premiere demos, which were never enforced exclusives, unlike IGN run sites.

I hope this doesn't ruin my weekend. I would much rather have the BF2 Demo and too much time spent playing it ruin my weekend... then to see some "EXCLUSIVE" BS piss me off.

What kind of money changes hand for one of these "exclusive" deals? Anyone know?

SkullCracker: "hmm funny thing is Xfire is saying they will have the demo first...hmmmm"

True, all Xfire members are supposed to be able to download it via P2P as soon as it's released.

Out of curiosity, what happened to the mass boycotting (by download servers) of demos that are released exclusively to a particular site? They made a big noise about it a while back, but it sounds like it's still happening.

Yeah a bunch of sites said they would not carry downloads of exclusive demos even after the exclusive period ended. They even signed a petition. But while some sites are actually following what they agreed to, some other sites have violated it.

Once somebody downloads the demo from gamespot, what is stopping them from then putting up for download on their own site a minute later? Is this illegal because it is a limited release demo? I always thought demos were public domain.

http://www.xfire.com/xf/modules.php?name=XFire&file=cmspage&body=xf_bf2_demo i believe this says it will be available on here exclusivly to xfire members. so download xfire and sign up. this seems legit because xfire site has a dumpload of Battlefield 2 advertisements and such.

Nobody knows for sure whats happening, EA have not said either way. Theres only that 1 liner on the E3 video.

Also even if it is exclusive, unless they have a authorisation key for it, it'll be all over the web in minutes after gamespot release it.

Theres some chat with an EA BF2 producer on thursday, so no doubt they will explain all then, when the hype has reached a satisfactory level.
