Battlefield 2 Goes GOLD!
This just in from the front lines…Battlefield 2 has officially gone GOLD! The game will begin shipping under the EA GAMES brand starting Tuesday, June 21, 2005.
In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game’s 30+ vehicles. Players can also hone their skills against improved enemy intelligence in the new single-player campaign before competing online with up to 64 players in some of the most intense battles on the PC.
Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates. With the new online character ranking and persistence, players increase their rank and unlock awards, including new weapons, medals, and more.
Developed by Sweden-based developer, Digital Illusions, the creators of the original Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 is rated “T” (Teen) by the ESRB and has an MSRP of $49.99. Oh give me a break. Terrible gameplay mechanics? Where'd you find that phrase? One of your favorite gaming sites? I guess the tons of other people that made it the GOTY agree with you huh. And I guess that's why other companies are cloning their style of game?Gasp! The horror! God forbid he have an independant thought! Call the waaaaaambulance!
And I predict you will eat your hat. I had the marvelous opportunity to get in a few rounds of 32-player action at E3 2005 over at the Nvidia booth, and even that build which was a month old even at that time looked definitely good enough to ship. I was able to examine all my fears (command mode pointless, squads don't encourage teamwork, etc.) and was able to allay all of them. Placed my pre-order as soon as I got home from L.A.
