Call of Duty 3 Clue

Though Call of Duty 2 is not yet complete, this Infinity Ward Jobs Listing (thanks Tiscali Games) indicates that a third installment in the World War II shooter series is indeed likely, if not already in the works, as they list an opening for a Senior Programmer "interested in creating cutting edge games on both the PC and all of the new next-generation console platforms," with the following headline: "Senior Next-Gen Programmer (New IP and COD3)."

Slothy, there were reports that CoD2 was to have prone removed, but if you say it will be there thats fine. I hope this time you will actually stick and support the game for the competitive community instead of leaving it broken especially when the game moves into higher level competitions and community grows.

And for god's sake I hope leaning will work properly this time around.

"Hmm this doesn't sound like BF1942 servers I play on."

I can`t speak for ww2 games. But just take a gander at how they play Joint Ops for example. As well, BF 2 is soon to be here, and the devs think it is ok to leave the ability for a fully loaded soldier to jump their whole body 6 feet in the air.

At any rate, I am still interested in seeing how COD 2 arrives. I have a buddy who plays COD UO mp and he says its a blast. He is not real excited bout the too linear sp tho. Maybe the devs got the message and that is why the freedom is being put into COD 2? None too soon imho.

Yeah, unless the game was so completely awesome like Half-Life2 released back in 1999, I'm not interested in having the equivelent of control that Flight Simulator 2005 might have. I just want to shoot the enemy, have some minor movement abilities like Prone & such, some minor control over my squad, and that's it. Don't make it so complex that I am *REQUIRED* to read the manual. It's a game, not a way of life. I won't get paid for it. It's just not that fucking important. Just make it good with AI that doesn't rush me like retarded elementary school children rushing outside for recess. WWEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Bah that game was too hardcore. I really liked the look and feel of the first one, in truth it was awesome to look at but it was so hard I just gave up and moved on.

Yes HnD2 was totally underrated. It had the best WW2 feel of any shooter.. plus the missions didn't resort to copies of Saving Private Ryan's ass or Band of Boyfriends.

MP these days has almost been ruined for ME by the peeps that are playing. All I see is Roadwarrior ground vehicle use, Airquake Air vehicle usage. Peeps using every exploit they can find to gain a supposed edge over others in mp.

Hmm this doesn't sound like BF1942 servers I play on. Normally all the servers are policed with a little too much zeal imo, and cheaters are delt with promptly. As for the Roadwarrior and airquake stuff I have never felt that was happening. Combat with vehicles is fast and brutal but can be countered. It's not uncommon to see someone in a tank driving around blasting planes and camping in the hangars. But I never had a problem dealing with them. All is fair in love and war after all.

I liked Hidden and Dangerous (despite its bugs) and H&D2. With the Sabre Squad addon, H&D2 became the best WWII FPS out there. The most realistic made plus coop missions with up to I believe 6 guys in a squad.

I hope an H&D3 comes out someday...

The CoD expansion pack was MUCH better than the original game.

Wow, it was exactly the opposite for me. I enjoyed the first one, but the over-scripting in the add-on was ridiculous. Venture 5 feet off your intended path and say hello to the artillery shell of God. I was completely turned off by the 4th level and uninstalled the game.

Then there is the smacktalk. Gotta love that. The list goes on.... let`s not forget such things as bunnyhopping, pronejumping, glitching, etc etc etc. Nope. I still look forward to a great sp game experience. Not to mention I hope more game devs allow a co op of the sp game missions.

I`d love mp more if the peeps playing would all play incharacter..... much like the A.I. does in sp. But I don`t ever seeing that happen anymore.

When you leave a level in any game, your health, guns, ammo, are all the same. It was saved.

Why not have the same thing done for AI?

So let's say that in COD2, they really want to make it non-linear so that you can go where you want, when you want. But then they realize that when you go this way or that way, the AI is only activated for those enemies you come in contact with, including if you load a new level. This is STUPID!

What should be, is that if you or an enemy fires a gun, the enemy AI goes up a notch in awareness for all AI non-players in the area where the gun is heard (depending on the sound of the gun a pistol would be less than a machine gun would be less than a tank firing), much like the FarCry but with 10 levels of awareness rather than 3. And the map levels should all be interconnected like Half-life1, where the loadtimes were short enough so that you didn't lose your immersive feeling.

Couple these things together with AI that are "informed" to be on a higher alert status because of what happened in the Level preceeding & you won't be able to run to a new Level to escape the enemy.

Now, the enemy at upper levels of awareness will do certain things depending on the carnage being done to them. They will call in reinforcements from farther & farther away in the level; they will rush; they will hide; they will retreat; or they will gather up in groups of 1-10 groups at ambush points. This is done so that the player can enjoy a balanced game & have a non-linear experience. If the player is having an incredibly easy time with the enemy, they'll retreat and gather in groups to become much more difficult and even gather in one immense group of 100 or more enemies if the player has really scared the shit out of them. If they pass through a level barrier, then all the enemies in that area will begin to do the same, if he passes back & forth, the enemies continue amassing each time the player is there. The player cannot escape by level-jumping. He might be able to find a way to pass them entirely, but he can't make them all awareness=0 by jumping through a level.

If a player is having a hard time, then they will chatter amongst eachother more often, rush out one by one, and generally give the player an easy time.

Why is it so difficult to make a game like this??? Even more curious, why aren't devs thinking of things like this instead of copying eachother all the time. It's bad enough that we have to deal with sequels because they lack creativity. We also have to deal with the entire genre basically being a continuous string of sequels because there is such a lack of creativity.

The talk of CoD2 taking you off rails intrigues me. Running through a whole town, turning down one passageway, seeing a tank, and hightailing it to find another way through could be cool. Especially if you can enter buildings.

We'll see how it pans out. Like I said, I don't think CoD was memorable, and it blurs right into all the other WWII FPS games I've played, but I'll still pick this one up. I might not be able to distinguish it, and remember thinking it was only a 7 out of 10, but it was a decent fix.

I myself am not really attracted to ww2 games. But COD 2 has my interest. COD UOs demo felt too restrictive. The articles say COD 2 is allowing the player more freedom of movement choice within the game world. I hope this is true. Better this than too tight scripting. Definately wanna try the demo.

For the record, I like a full range of player movement ala prone ability, lean left right crouch, walk run the list goes on. I hate it when devs take away movement abilities thinking this will help to balance their game. MoV did that with the no limited jump ability, no moving while aiming etc. It totally blew.

Which game had the sniper level that forced you to die several times? You were walking through a wrecked french town, with snipers...

I actually pressed on to finish that level. Later on though, there was a level with the same ridiculous snipers but in the woods, in a blizzard. That was as much fun as growing bamboo up my urethra, so I uninstalled the game right there.

Well it seems, CoD2 will be same story as CoD1 was. Currently, CoD is still popular multiplayer wise but it did die down mainly because Infinity Ward and publisher left the game unsupported and with the most disturbing glitches such as "left lean" glitch and other map related glitches. Sure they will tell you its the engine and they cant fix it much, but that is sorry excuse for a game that grew with community.

Now, that we already hear about COD3, same story will happen with CoD2, they will be happy with making $ on it and after few patches that will alter gameplay more than fix anything they will leave it be and move to CoD3...

Further, they already removed proning in CoD2 to avoid having deal with any complications with it(COD1 there were proning glitches and they had to insert lame prone block feature). This also shows their approach that instead of fixing something they just remove the feature in next game. Typical.

The CoD expansion pack was MUCH better than the original game. If CoD2 is a similar leap forward it should be a great game.

OTOH, WW2 games deperately need a thematic innovation (as opposed to gameplay and graphics innovations, which they are recieving). A game in which you play as the Nazis (especially a really really dark game that included missions related to war crimes and then an endgame where you leading teenagers and old men in futile resistance at the end of the war) would breath some life into the genre. I seriously doubt anyone has the balls to put money into something like that.

Which game had the sniper level that forced you to die several times? You were walking through a wrecked french town, with snipers in buildings and behind trees, completely invisible unless you knew where they were. That killed one of the games for me, too much reloading, dying, reloading, dying, finally seeing where that bullet came from, reloading, killing sniper 1, repeating process for sniper 2.

yep, this a medal of honor:allied assault level
