DNF Comments

The 3D Realms Forums features answers from George Broussard and others at 3D Realms to forum-submitted questions about Duke Nukem Forever (thanks ASLAyerAODsk). The crew answers questions like whether the game's weapons have yet been implemented: "Yes. In, with animations, sound pass, and final textures. We'll probably add a couple more as we go, and there are some whacky ideas we want to explore, but all the base guns are in and we could ship with what we have."

Damn, I think you're screwed to even run Prey. lol...nice rig.

shit, Gordon Lui's movies from the 70s were 10x better than tarantino's garbage

Um, exaggerating the classics, aren't we? I think you're kind of missing the point on Tarrantino's work. The 70's and 80's were the golden years of HK cinema, Gordon Lui's work included, and they weren't the greatest productions.

if you want to see a good kung fu flick, watch some hong kong Jet Li movies

He's pretty good when he's not a) acting in an American film alongside a crappy rap artist and b) when he's not playing a hitman. Triad roles just don't work for Jet.

"Tricks are for kids" - What the f@#$ does that mean?
It was a reference to the true name of The Bride that clearly passed you by. Kill Bill was not Tarantino's finest work, but he was honest about where it came from. If you didn't like it, that's fine, but it wasn't a bad film.

What the hell? All Duke's lines were taken from other, far more creative movies! Did Duke have ANY original lines of his own?

I think you have uncovered the real reason DNF has been delayed so long! They haven't found a movie (such as "Army of Darkness") that has enough quotable lines they can steal!

DNF is at the cutting edge as usual... only to watch that edge grow furthur and furthur away as they continually fall behind in an effort to get ahead.

Word is one of the new weapons involves a strange gravitational type weapon where you can pick things up with it and throw them across a room. Things like hot water rads and propane tanks and nerf balls. Lots of bugs so far but they think\hope\pray they might get it in the game.

Another weapon that they've had a lot of play testing fun with and looks like a lock for the game is what they call "The Impaler". A harpoon like weapon that fires a massive wooden projectile which is capable pinning it's victims to walls. The play has been made even more exciting with what they call a "physics engine."

It means... tricks... are... for... kids. You can't really simply it any more than that :p

Is there a bigger joke in the gaming industry than DNF?
In games? ...
Prey?

We've actually seen someone playing Prey, so it's no longer a contender. What I find funny is that Human Head seems to have knocked up a playable version of 3DR's other ten year project in little over a year, and 3DR are depending on them to do it before they run out of money.

Once Prey hits the shelves, Human Head should offer to take DNF off their hands too.

Er no... It already passed its ten year anniversary in '04. This is now, amazingly, year eleven that we are heading toward

I think you'll find most of us are counting from the release of DN3D, not the beginning of DN, or more fairly, the announcement of DNF. Otherwise that'd be like saying Quake 4 took ten years to make.

OK, so some of us need to get together and Splinter Cell that fcking game, seriously. CT style so we get knives, too.

Ray, are you talking about the 2001 e3 video for Duke Forever?
I think they were saying it was the 10th anniversery of Duke\Duke Nukem franchise, as Duke Nukem 3D was a sequel to two previous side scrolling Duke games from the early 90s for the PC.
Duke Nukem 3D came out in 1996.

This is known as the Kill Bill approach. Rip off all your ideas from other, lesser known games and movies and hope nobody notices. And if they do, cover your ass by passing it off as a respectful 'homage'.
.

Is this a backhanded swipe at Tarentino? If so, it's ludicrous. He is up front about his influences and masterful in his direction. If you want to belittle someone who rip off ideas, belittle the people that to it badly

Er...no.

Remember the "current" E3 video? If you recall, that was already referencing D3D's ten year anniversary.
September of 94 as I recall...
More than willing to take a 3D Duke Nukem 3D at this point,
Ray

Having said that, the gap between Doom 2 and Doom 3 was about ten years...
Yeah but the difference is that id managed to make Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3 and supervise a whole bunch of other products between D2 and D3. 3DR has rehashed Duke (Manhattan Project) and produced other games (Max Payne etc) but hasn't developed its own stuff.

People forget that Daikatana only took 3 years to complete.

let's see Human head is making Prey...they had the doom 3 engine for what maybe a year and have shown off more stuff then DNF....and here is GB saying what is done with the game...do you actually think this game is even close to being ready...please this guy is either drunk all the time and posting stuff from his basement or they are actually making this game by himself...i never heard of a game taking 6 years to make after you buy an engine from someone else....you will see that he is waiting for the UT 2007 engine to be released before DNF sees the light of day!
