DOOM 3 Patch, New SDK

As noted in the .plan file of id programmer Timothee Besset, a new version 1.3 patch is now available for DOOM 3 for Windows accompanied by an updated SDK and a new Linux client/server. The new Linux version adds support for the Resurrection of Evil expansion, and the SDK now incorporates support for the add-on as well. Additionally the new version adds PunkBuster support EAX 4.0 support, bug fixes, and more. Some or all of the downloads are available on 3D Gamers, FileFront, FileShack (registration required), Gameguru Mania, Gamer's Hell, and Worthplaying.

Dunno about big mods, but I'm interested in Classic DOOM 3 http://cdoom.d3files.com

Going to wait for some kind of full release though.

I played an earlier build of this and thought it was fantastic, easily the type of gameplay that Doom 3 should have been. I got stuck though, as it seems a trigger in a level isn't working correctly to bring the floor up so I can cross to the exit door. I haven't been back to play it since, but this reminds me that I still have demon killin' left to do.

I wonder how much audio improvement EAX4 will add.

Well, if you consider

1) The game crashing
2) Audio hanging

to be improvements, then I would say 2.

You update from their website, everything is fine. For a day. Or a week. Or maybe a month or two, or three. Then EAX goes caput again.

That's been the case with Creative since the in(c)eption of the SB Live. It was at that time they apparently decided that having someone who knew how to actually write a driver was a waste of salary, and that for that same amount of money, they could hire another guy with a Phd in music. They have ELEVEN of those!!!!
The drivers are now written by the drunk homeless guy who pisses against their building every night.

Is there any real improvement from EAX 4.0 over the games included 5.1 surround?
Does the inclusion of EAX 4.0 disable the games already included surround sound implementation?

Also, there were drivers released that updated the Audigy to EAX 4, came out late 2003 or early 2004, I don't remember.
Not very good drivers IMHO, but hey it's Creative we're talking about here.
Now they do have some issues apparently, like removing EAX effects from the EAX effect listing. Creative tells you that the effects still work in games even though they're missing from the list, but at least in my case it's a crock. When the effects disappeared off of EAX's list, they no longer worked ingame either, or in the EAX goldmine thingie that shows EAX off.
I had to revert back to the original CD drivers to get EAX working at all again. You update from their website, everything is fine. For a day. Or a week. Or maybe a month or two, or three. Then EAX goes caput again.
And there is a modification to get Audigy 2 drivers working on the Audigy 1. I found a link on the www.guru3d.com forums I think it was. Pretty involved process, though.

When I use 4 speakers in Windows' sound setup, I can only pick stereo. I can use surround if I use 5.1 setup. I don't have to do this anymore. Audio sounds better. I think I will download some single player maps to check out the enhanced audio and pee my pants!!

I'm looking forward to The Dark Mod (http://www.thedarkmod.com/). Basically a Thief style mod, which seems like a good fit with the lighting system for Doom3.

Took them a long while to put in EAX 4.0.
That's because id never intended to use EAX4. This is the outcome of CL's ransom demands earlier this year when they patented Carmack's Reverse.

Yeah I think thats how it works, but it may be possible to mod the Audigy 2 driver to run on the Audigy 1. Not sure if EAX4 will run then, though.

IIRC, you will also need that beta driver from Creative for Doom3 to use EAX4 correctly.

ps. Am I right in thinking EAX 4 is Audigy 2 and up, and the original Audigy is only EAX 3? No drover for it anyway, mind you.

Have you tried the co-op mod? I have been wanting to try it for some time now. I wonder if it's any good. (Of course, I get pissed of at the fact that id was too lazy to put it in the final release!)
