Gears of War PC?

Though Gears of War has only been announced for the Xbox 360, Microsoft's J Allard on Xbox 360 on Eurogamer (thanks Tiscali Games) seems to let the cat out of the bag with the Xbox chief's answer to one question about Epic's upcoming action game:
Eurogamer: But is that exclusive to Xbox?

J Allard: It's Xbox and PC.

Dead or Alive 4 :)

why don't you save yourself $xxx, and go download some pr0n. At least then you aren't taking it up the ass from buying another MS product (XBox console).

Every one of the Xbox 360 games on E3 was demoed on the PC through dev kit. Final Xbox 360 hardware is not available yet. The fact, that game is demoed on PC means nothing in this case. I think that GoW will be coming to PC roughly 1-2 years after Xbox 360 release. Same case as original Halo.

It strikes me as a risky strategy to me. If I was an X Box fan I'd want a conclusive reason to upgrade, and Halo 3/GOW in spring '06 would be a great reason not to until then.

Ah, but they're in a 3-way race you see. And the general rumor is that the systems will be fairly pricey.

I'm sure they'd love to release the XBox at the same time as such flagship titles. But then they'd be pushing it close to PS3 and possibly Nintendo Revolution.

If the systems are going to be what people are saying ($400 or $450 USD), then you want to get them to buy yours first. Because after spending $400-$450 on your kids for one game system, chances are you can't or won't buy another $400-$450 system a few months later. I mean, without games we're talking close to $1k.

If their system is ready and it has some games, people will buy them; maybe not as many as if they'd have some real killer release games, but a bunch. And maybe 1/3 of their early sales will be locked into XBox360 instead of PS3 for at least 1-2 years.

There's no doubt about it that GOW is coming for PC. It has been demoed on several occasions with a PC setup (GDC, E3 etc.) and nV News is hosting over a 15 minute ShakyCam video of UE3 demo where in the end of it the presentator plays GOW for a short time with the same PC that he did the UE3 demo with (dual GF6800 SLI).

Yeah, DoA 4's "boob physics" sure looked, uh, interesting at E3. Not much of a difference between previous DoA's, other than, er, size, and range of motion, i guess. On the other hand, the battlefields looked great.

I'd tend to agree with you there, i mean, no matter how great some release titles look to be, they might end up being crap. And then there might be some that come out of nowhere and end up being gems/franchise titles. You never really know until release day.

edit: oops, used quote tags instead of italics. Man that looked weird.

Well, the GOW release date is supposedly JAN '06. If that holds, that's a scant month or so after XBOX 360 comes out (and there very well may be some really decent release titles...who knows?). Not like M$ doesn't have the resources to accelerate that if it really looks like it will sell consoles...BUT, as far as games go, M$ has been really good about letting their in-house devs take their time.

And HALO 3 looks to be Spring/Summer...so that could be a good couple months (or more) after GOW.

But that's all so subjective...I mean, who knows? We're talking 3 seperate release dates that all may or may not happen (although I think Xbox 360 is probably a lock for November/December).

As for J Allard...he's focused on XBOX 360 and a three continent release in 6 months. I doubt he's real focused on whether GOW will be developed for the PC. Not to say he doesn't care, or that it's not a good idea...just probably under his radar.

Sorry, but i think i'll just continue doubting until people from both companies can agree on their platform announcements. Epic says this, Microsoft says that. Who's telling the truth? Maybe neither, and we'll get it for PS3

Which brings me to this question... Halo 3 will not be out until spring '06, gears of war will not be out until '06 and could well be PC as well anyhow and Microsoft are cutting the console lifetime somewhat prematurely... Why will people want to buy the 360 on release? These will most likely if not conclusively be the X-boxes flagship games, only Microsoft seems more interested in hitting the market six months before Sony with lesser (albeit probably still fine) titles than giving a release date which has maximum games inpact.

It strikes me as a risky strategy to me. If I was an X Box fan I'd want a conclusive reason to upgrade, and Halo 3/GOW in spring '06 would be a great reason not to until then.

Hot damn! This was the best looking thing at E3 (Yes, it was better looking than even UT2007). At least now I know I will be able to play it since I won't touch a console.

For those doubters, given how much it costs to make a game, I can't imagine that Epic and Microsoft wouldn't port it to the PC for the extra revenue it would bring since a port would be a no-brainer from a technical standpoint with XNA and Unreal Engine 3.

Could you explain your reasoning for that? We already know that UE3 is also built for use on PC, and GoW is definitely developed on a PC, but i don't see how that leads you to believe that it will be available on PC.

Usually, these comments mean "console exclusive." That is, only of Xbox, not for PS, GC, NRev and stuff and only for a limited amount of time. See: GTA3VCSA

The monsters in that pic are directly out of an old Unreal Engine 3 screenshot demonstrating subsurface scattering. Somehow, that just makes me think this game's gonna come out for the PC.

J Allard says one thing (it'll be available for the PC eventually) and Clffy B says another (it'll be a purely NextBox exclusive).

Guess we'll find out eventually.
