Gears of War PC?

Though Gears of War has only been announced for the Xbox 360, Microsoft's J Allard on Xbox 360 on Eurogamer (thanks Tiscali Games) seems to let the cat out of the bag with the Xbox chief's answer to one question about Epic's upcoming action game:
Eurogamer: But is that exclusive to Xbox?

J Allard: It's Xbox and PC.

The games will decide if I buy it. I have to admit the games I played in high def on the original Xbox were awesome but they didn't keep me entertained the way PC Games do.

...the entire next gen flopping is possible in the same way that a black hole spontaneously opening up next to the Earth and swallowing it whole is possible.

...and that would be a bad thing?

Heh, if anything we should be worrying more about the PC than about how well the nextgen consoles will do. Less and less publishers are picking up single-platform PC titles these days, and PC game sales have significantly dropped in the last year or so. Admittedly there hasn't been a whole lot of stellar games coming out, and some analysts attribute the lower sales to increased MMORPG subscriptions -- but either way, it hasn't boded well for the rest of the non-MMO games. Not to mention all the MMO's that seem to be going under.

To me, what hurts the most is the fact that many developers are almost forced into making their games multi-platform, and often dumbing them down for the mass console market as a result. There are only a few multi-platform games that i've really enjoyed. KotoR was one of them... and actually, i can't even think of any others off the top of my head right now. Sigh. I hope it's a trend that doesn't continue.

In what universe exactly do you think it's possible that the 2 largest consoles will sit on shelves gathering dust? Nevermind the enhanced hardware and rendering, but with the added music, video, and online capabilities, the entire next gen flopping is possible in the same way that a black hole spontaneously opening up next to the Earth and swallowing it whole is possible.

beleive me, companies like MS and Sony don't invest billions in shareholder money without doing feasability studies to see if the market will continue on its current double-digit growth.

It was just annouced UE3 will be offered as part of the PS3 SDK. Epic has the PC, Xbox360, and PS3 covered. If the next gen consoles do well, these guys will be the last major independent developer in 5 years. Everything will be done with the Unreal engine. That's what they're goal is. In recent interviews they predicted everything from sports titles to fighting sims will use their tech. Look at how many UE3 powered games were announced in the past month. Few companies are licensing Doom 3, and even fewer Source.

Or maybe they're biting off more than they can chew. What if the next gen consoles flop, which is a good possibility. The whole industry is a freight train out of control right now. Only a matter of time before it comes off the tracks and smashes into a mountain.

Actually, I'm kinda excited about the Media Center and streaming from my PC to xbox360 over a network. My PC is too far away from my TV to get any kind of video-out action going, but my place is wired with ethernet cables. It'd be nice to stream stuff like video/pics from the PC to the living room.

If the next Fight Night or Burnout is out close to launch, that would be enough to seal the deal for me.

I'm guessing it will release for PC, but will probably be a staggered release where the PC version comes out 3 to 6 months later.

Why will people want to buy the 360 on release

Excellent question, and I'm not sure MS actually has an answer. The lineup of games for the X360 at launch seems definitely underwhelming.

I'm sure that the hardcore geek crowd MUST HAVE IT as soon as possible, but I just don't see it making such a big splash unless MS comes out with some decent games for it.

Ofcourse, they're keeping Halo 3 for the day when the PS3 launches, but then again, the PS3 will, supposedly, have GTA4 available on launch.
No offense to Halo, but it's no GTA.

I dunno. As much as I would LOVE to see GoW on PC (the ONLY way FPS should be played, IMNSHO), I'm gonna doubt it until I hear different from Epic. I heard "Xbox exclusive" right from Cliffy's mouth, so...

And why would they let it be exclusive? Easy - if MS offered them enough $$ for exclusive platform rights. Or maybe they'll do like they did with Halo - release it for PC, but only after such a long delay that it'll be old technology by then and nobody will care anymore. Which would be a shame.

Every one of the Xbox 360 games on E3 was demoed on the PC through dev kit.

Yes, of course, but I still think GOW is a definite PC release in the future. I think '360 exclusive' means only that it's not coming for PS3 or Revolution.

Hey! Don't knock boob physics! Or skirt physics...there's a whole generation of physics engines that have advanced purely for those reasons.

My money (I'm just looking @ what EBGames is saying, even though some have incorrect dates) is on DOA 4, Condemned: Criminal Origins, PGR3, and Kameo for good release games. At least, the "buzz" from E3 seems to be with these titles.

Besides...they're 59.99 (except DOA 4 which may be an error) so I only need 1 or 2 decent launch titles. But you won't get that...OH NO...they'll bundle it with 4 or something. And I'll care about maybe 2 of them, and get 2 others I'd never have touched...like Top Spin 2 or something.
