Aww man, I'd almost gotten over my Wing Commander depression. Geez, I wish someone could pick that up and start developing it again. And get Mark Hammill back for the cutscenes!

You may find the jokes funny if you've played 80s-90s RPG games.

Think baldur's gate dark alliance for the consoles.

That is my point, I have a PC with much, much better hardware than a console. I'm not at all looking for photo realism ala Alan Wake but I disagree that they get the job done. They don't get the job done and make me wonder how I warped back in time 5 or 6 years.

Stronghold 2, for example, doesn't have the greatest of visual prowess but it does get the job done quite well. That should be the level that The Bard's Tale should have.

The last demo was horrible as you had no idea how the interface worked, where the Hell you were or why you were there.

The graphics reminded me of the same level that Crusader: No Remorse had back in the late 90s.

I expected better of inXile. I am downloading it now and will give it a shot tonight.

the grpahics comment is a bit of a stretch i think. while not overly good, they're suitable for this type of game. think baldur's gate dark alliance for the consoles.

the rest of your comments were quite valid, though. the game just doesn't play the way you would expect it to. very clunky.

endless sexual and scatological double entendres and inuendo about "jugs" and "longswords" in your pants. *yawn*

typical example - if you go to http://www.thebardstale.com/ and click on the barmaids crotch or boobs enough times you get re-directed to the Sexual Harassment Legal Info Center http://www.sexualharassment.com/ . wow. clever.

I guess the game would be considered High Camp for the Adam Sandler boogers-and-fart-jokes crowd.

Not very good, no.

Very clunky interface, not very exiting combat (think: less exiting than Diablo), cut scenes with sloowwwwww camera movements every time you talk to the big skeleton guy, clicks and pops at the start of voice clips. Also, the tutorial is laughable. You can't run around, only press space, 2, a, d and you don't really do anything.

There is some clever stuff revolving around the bard not understanding what the tutorial guy is talking about when he mentions pressing buttons and using the mouse and stuff.

Not worth it, though.

Thanks for reminding me I still need to play all the way through Crusader: No Regret!

Another great Origin series that has deserved a sequel for a long long time. Goddamn EA! Goddamn them to HELL!

Ouch..

Although that was a terrifically fun game. Came out in the early 90s, I believe, not late 90s, back when Origin was still Origin and made kickass games.
