UT2007 Title Official

BeyondUnreal has a new Unreal Tournament 2007 logo online with a confirmation from Midway that this will indeed be the official title of the next installment in the UT series. This contrasts a recent report that the name of the series may take a change in direction (story), though that story's other point that the title will not be UT2006 does turn out to be correct.

Yeah that sounds about correct when we'll be able to handle the Unreal Engine 3 without major lag like it most liekly would on today's hardware. 2 more years will be just right.

Didn't they originally name it UT 2003 because they were going to have yearly 'incremental' updates?

Course I guess UT 2004 having a full version price already defeated the concept...

I'm still waiting for a game as fun as UT was, and especially with the Excessive mod.

Just because it has 2007 in the name does it really mean it will be released in 2007?

Well according to the website ut2007 will be published by midway in the 2nd half of 2006

No...they could do it like car companies.
The 2007 model cars will be out in 2006.

And of course, they could always be late with the game!

Um, if you paid full price for 2004, you weren't paying attention. Rebates and discounts were offered for 2003 owners.

Think I got the Special Edition of 2004 w/ the headset (the day it comes out) for $29.99, and that's BEFORE the rebate...

Back when the plan was to ship "incremental" updates every year, they never said anything about not charging you full price for them. If I remember correctly, the plan was to turn Unreal Tournament into a sports-like franchise, like EA's Madden 200x series. Those games also only make incremental updates every year while charging you full price for them.

Actually, I bought UT 2003 as soon as it hit, and played it like a dozen times, then played the UT 2004 demo once and never looked back ; )

They really need to make it so that 40, 50, or even 60 people can play at the same time.

32 people matches are too lopsided when someone leaves.

I don't think we will see mods that are worthwhile. Mod, maybe. The level of skill required is just too high.

This will be interesting to see.

there was some interview with them (most likely the story link in OP) where they stated they were going to gear more towards UT than the more recent incarnations.

Besides their original codename 'Envy' being somewhat pompous (how, i wonder, did they decide on that word? Were they all sitting around in a board meeting thinking how awesome they were and how much everyone would want to be them? Wait, if CliffyB was there, that's probably really what happened), i suppose i'm looking forward to seeing what they can do with this level of tech. Thing is, i remember them saying that they were going to try to bring the old UT99 feeling back in UT2004, i mean did you look at the 2k4 HUD? The 2k4 shock performance? Very UT99. But the rest... well, Onslaught was fun for a little while, but you can only add so much sugar to crap to try to improve the taste before people realize it's still the same crap. Oh well. Good luck, Epic.

I remember thinking the same thing when I saw the name "Unreal". I asked myself, "Who do these guys think they are"? That is, until I saw Unreal running on my Voodoo 2. Unfortunately they haven't blown me away like that since; it's been milkorama all the way. Let's hope they do it this time.

chill friend. They're just changing the name is all. From what I hear its going to be played on massive maps with more advanced gameplay objectives. IOW, its only going to get better.

I personally think the whole naming convention was a mistake, especially for UT2004, It really suffered for that name, I was labeled "almost ut2003" or even mistaken for "03" when it did infact have lots of new content and was a much better game.

I really hope this wont be the case with UT2k7, I guess the new engine will provide some screenshots, vids and maybe a demo that really sets it apart.
