S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in 2006?

Oblivion-Lost.com has a story up speculating that the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has slipped until 2006, offering the following quote from THQ responding to questions about the game's absence from their recent financial reports covering releases through the middle of next year: "We have no definitive release date yet for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. We do expect to have some announcements, including a public demonstration this summer. More news to follow." In an amusing side note, the THQ's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Website (thanks Rhialto) actually lists the game as "now available," much to the amusement of those who frequent the GSC Game World Forums.

OK, looking in my crystal ball I see that THQ will dismiss these rumors then a few weeks later come out and announce the push back. At this point I could care less though, as long as Battlefield 2 and F.E.A.R. come out on time I'll be happy in '05.

I always confused this game with SOLDNER, for reasons I can't figure out. This one looked way better, but way overpromised.

SOLDNER sucked, and I stopped caring about this one based on that. Makes no sense, even to me.

Vaporware....whatever this game is all hype from a developer then never released anything good before this title. Its already looking dated. The game would need to be incridable for me to buy it. Hopefully the gameplay is as cool as they say it is but I'll wait for a demo/user reviews before I purchase in 2006 or 07.

BF2 and F.E.A.R. are on my list as must haves. Elder Scrolls title looks really nice also. And of course Bioshock is on my list, hopefully we'll have some more info about it at this years E3.

And here I was worried my rig would choke on it with all the interviews, previews, and tech displays we were barraged with for the past few years. I think we'll all be on the high end by the time (or if)it hits the market.

It's amazing how many features they've cut just to continue pushing the game back. Talk about the worst of both worlds.

Supposedly they're having trouble with the creatue AI. Read the FAQ of what they're shooting for and you get an idea of just why its taking so long. In a nutshell its very very ambitious.

Also, they seem to keep finding reasons to NOT show the outdoor DX9 stuff which leads me to beleive thats another problem they need to work out.

I don't fault them for pushing it back though. I'd rather see the game done right rather than have some empty suit force it out to cover their quarterly finacial projections for shareholders.

I see this game becoming the next Duke nukem lost forever with all the delays and cuts and promises. I mean shit, they could have added Coop 2 times over by now.

I believe they are overly ambitious with design. Basically they wanted too much and they don't have the people to deliver what they wanted.

Anytime a game takes so long in development it should worry people.

Every time I read previews of Stalker - even with the cuts - it still sounds brilliant (in concept). But it's in rapid danger of losing any credibility it has left if it keeps slipping like this; especially if the developers keep trying to add new features to keep up with state-of-the-art.

Well. Thats bad news. But We should all take into account the recent events that took place in the Ukraine. I'm sure the whole switch to West style politics and scandals affected the dev company in some way.

But this game looked ready a long time ago...

I feel a tourettes outburst coming on...

going to press the button...

I think we're sharing parts of the same brain. I swear, it seems like nobody has even mentioned Bioshock since the announcement. If you like those sorts of games though, i think you're going to have another to add to that list after E3. Call it a hunch.

especially if the developers keep trying to add new features to keep up with state-of-the-art.

My concern is that they start slashing features and content due to pressure to get it out the door and we end up with a tragic mess.
