C'mon, I mean really, how many English people play games?!

A ton! But I think we english speakers have given foreign developers the wrong idea. Everyone here seemed so enamored with "All your base are belong to us!" that they seem to believe we enjoy badly translated games!

Halsy - stupid question alert...

When you say you picked this up did you mean Gothic 3 is out in the UK already? Or were you talking about Gothic 2?

edit: I see, next year 2006.

I've always wanted to play these games, but they had an extremely limited release in Australia. It seemed like they were available for a week and then disappeared for eternity.

The good thing about getting the Gothic games late is that by the time it gets to you guys, most of the bugs are fixed. I stopped playing G2 when it killed my savegame more than halfway through the game.

Night Of The Raven is coming.

World of Gothic:
There are rumors about an impending release of the English version of the addon. Can you give us more details?

Stefan Berger:
English versions will be released, we at JoWood took matters into our own hands.

By the way, official Gothic 3 trailer will be released shortly after E3.

There was never an official English release of NotR, though there is a good translation mod available.

Acleacius, that cleared up a lot of questions I had, so thanks!

Also a big fan of the Gothics - and the controls are fine. If you don't like the controls then you probably thought Morrowind melee combat was okay. (Hint: it wasn't).

I am right in saying that Night of the Raven never had an English release? I'd snap it up in minute but have to draw the line at learning German to play a game. (though I did get an O level in it. That and French - just enough to appreciate that le singe est dans l'arbre.)

It was the same English in UK and Us thou Atari had a voice patch to clean up some of the translations.
Best I can tell that is what killed the deal between JoWOod and Atari on Night of the Raven.
Atari wanted cleaned up dialogue and JoWood could not deliver as PB refused to work on a patch since they had started on G3, so Atari did not publish and let contract runout.
JoWood wanted another add besides Night of the Raven, but PB refused to work in G2 again after starting G3, possibly due to contract on G3 timeline or just ready to move on.
PB did release a Editor for G2 thou it is German language to operate it but stranglyenough textures and stuff are in English (I hear)

I doubt it was the developers decision to wait two years to release it, it would probably have been some half assed publishing strategy - possibly from the same family of logic as EA not promoting Strangers Wrath because they couldn't get the ps2 port running.

Was the voice acting in the UK version the same as in the (extremely late) U.S. release of Gothic 2?

I'm fairly certain it was. I also bought the UK version months before the US version was released. The dialogue seemed to be plain US english and so was the speech from what I could tell. I heard there was no difference.. just different publishers or something which caused the difference in release.

Gothic 1 and 2 were fantastic games. Very immersive. Looking forward to 3 very much.

Gimme more Gothic 2 and I'll be quite happy, shitty controls and all.

Was the voice acting in the UK version the same as in the (extremely late) U.S. release of Gothic 2? I really like the acting in both U.S. Gothic games and wouldn't want to buy the UK version if it meant sacrificing this aspect.

Would also like to see them make the mage actually viable, but I'll take what I can get until ToE4

The graphics look absolutely great....but what about the control schemes? That was a deal breaker when it came to Gothic 2.

Yeah, I snagged the UK verson as I didn't want to wait. It would be in Jowood's best (finanical) interest to get this out in North America asap though. Definitely stoked on getting my mitts on this one. Such a fantastic series so far.
