Vivendi's answers to player questions regarding Tribes: Vengeance (thanks TheForumz) fills in some of the blanks regarding the cancellation of plans for upcoming patches for Tribes Vengeance (story), which was due to dismal (approximately 47,000 copies in North America) sales: "It essentially comes down to poor sales. T:V debuted weakly and did not pick up any appreciable strength in sales (game sales are often like the movie box office - a title debuts strongly then sales slow over ensuing weeks). The first price drop did boost sales but not sufficiently. Another price cut further reduced margin on the game but did not improve sales significantly. Meanwhile, the patch was bogged down with the PunkBuster dispute, another drain on resources. Marketing became caught up in other projects in January while the dispute dragged on. When an estimate of when the patch might be ready was given, the decision to terminate it was made. It was simply not economically viable, given the low sales and the high cost of a full QA cycle. It was also felt that nothing in the patch would have improved sales, either (even the community was somewhat split on the merits of adding PunkBuster, with some opposed to it)." - Sparta: Ancient Wars
RPG Vault's Sparta: Ancient Wars Q&A talks with Torsten Hess and Ingo Horn of IMC about this upcoming historical RTS game: "The target group is the typical RTS fan who enjoyed playing Age of Empires 1 & 2, Age of Mythology or the Total War series, but in addition, we think even sci-fi fans from Starcraft or fantasy fans from Warcraft will give Sparta - Ancient Wars a chance. The appeal of the game is so satisfying that even players who are used to only playing with high-tech tanks and planes will enjoy competing with their best friends an ancient battle, where man to man combat was a question of honour!"

Free or not, I'm planning on scooping it up. I loved Starsiege. (Except for the cheesy Mark Hamill voice acting)

http://www.starsiege2845.com/ss2845/ will be released for free...I doubt it will be free since Vivendi owns the intellectual property of Starsiege, and since the team making this game is no longer using a licensed Vivendi game as a base engine.
THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH T:VThere are a number of things wrong with Tribes Vengeance, the most conspicuous being the lack of a decent dedicated server for Windows, the lack of a dedicated server for Linux, and badly broken mod tools. Tribes Vengeance is built upon the Unreal Engine, but its version of Unreal Edit is the worst of any Unreal game. You can't even successfully export the scripts with it.
When I played the beta I felt like I was playing T1 again. It was quite nice. Still a bit slow and small maps but I thought they would tweak it to the needs of the real hardcore Tribes players. But instead the final demo sucked so hard that I didnt buy it. The light armor felt as if it became medium. Even with an energy pack. The overall speed of the game was reduced and skiing got nerfed too. Not to mention that the netcode got worse than in the beta.
It felt like T2 at the end, and I hated T2.
Still, its very sad that this will most likely mark the death of Tribes, since it was always something special with all these dumb generic FPSs around.

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.
not really my type of game, but if the boards at Blue's are shitting on it, it may be worth another look.
That's a good policy for me, too. I find that the games flames on the Blues boards are typically ones I like.

Well, if you played Tribes 1 (Incredible!) and Tribes 2 (Extremely Incredible) you would come to the obvious conclusion.
I agree T:V sucked in comparison but I was at least hoping that it would hold out so that the devs would go make a T4, but No.
i played the hell out of all of them too - i played tribes on the software renderer because I was hardcore and had an Nvidia card instead of the more popular (and now defunct) Voodoo cards which were exclusively supported
i liked T:V quite a bit... but im pissed at how all this shit went down so i dont play it anymores

I too liked T:V. Both single player and multiplayer were solid. Sucks that it didn't sell.

I really liked the game. Dunno what all the complaints are about. It's a fun game.

THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH T:V, I LOVED THE GAME AND KNOW MANY OTHERS WHO DID AS WELL!!! I think its a damn shame that the game tanked and the friggin community didn't embrace it. It's funny all the professional reviews were positive but the public didn't like it. I especially enjoyed the multiplayer portion of it which was a fine game unto itself. Anyways put another nail in PC Gaming's coffin and blame the cynical fuckin' crybaby PC Gamers for ruining a potentially fantastic long living online game. I bet this game would've done fantastic if it were released as an Xbox exclusive with Xbox LIVE, I HATE THE FUCKIN CONSOLES but I can see why developers are ditching PC titles all together.... WHAT A FUCKIN' SHAME!
