What this world needs is a new A-10 flight simulator. 150 feet abover ground level at 300MPH, watch the 30MM rounds blow up the tanks in the Fulda Gap. Now that's flying. Fly-by-wire fancy boy F-16, BAH!

900,000 units for a flight sim? Wow!
For a flight sim franchise with four separate releases, actually. I'd be curious to know what proportion of those sales were for F4, which must have been by far the most expensive of the series to make.

Anyway, here's hoping that this F4-extension doesn't fail like the ones before it! Good luck to 'em.

The Graphics maybe out of date, but graphics doesn't dictate everything. I wish well on this game's success. I used to be really big into Falcon 3.0 and 4.0. I was in on an online flight squadron in 4.0 and did a few dogfights, but I had problems with the network or internet settings in the game. I had a hard time trying to play someone. :-/ This game was so beautiful to me, I got so good at it I can land the plane without assistance or guidence on any runway...Even an enemy runway after our strike team destroyed all their ground to air stuff..

I still remember my first manual landing in this game. Took ages of practice and GC constantly telling me where to go, but I made it.

fun as hell, and actually made you think you were part of a real war, with ai sorties constantly being flown around you (and the radio chatter to boot)

wow the graphics for Falcon 4.0: Allied Force just look god aweful. Really bad. You'd think they would spend some time updating the texture ground resolutions or something. Bleh.

Yeah it's a bit unfortunate that they're still using an ancient engine. This was out around the same time as Jane's F/A-18 if I remember, which I think was 1999. I used to fly F/A-18 quite a bit, it was a great sim. I thought of reinstalling it, but I'm not sure I would be able to tolerate the bleak graphics (which were relatively poor when the game was out, nevermind by today's standards). I never played Falcon, but the Jane's sims rocked when it came to detail.

They should have redone the sim and called Falcon 5.

Falcon 4 was what sim buffs call a "Study Sim". It was as realistic as possible including every non classified piece of information they could render. Most sims out today are just arcade games. Hardly a true "Sim" at all.

I always laughed at friends when they would come over and ask if they could just fly around an try shooting stuff. I flew a ton of missions where I never fired a shot. I know that kind of sounds boring but if you could remember all the controls it really felt like you were part of an actual battle. I mean if you think about it, I am sure every time one of our planes go up they never fire a shot either.

Falcon 3.0 was the first sim I really remember. I loved the cool radio chatter that your pilot would say as he blew up stuff.

"Yo, your fries are done!"
"Watch the canopy when you punch out, Jack!"
"Guns guns guns"

haha. Anyway, just a random comment.. but those joysticks you can buy at the store are so cool that it's a shame joystick-requiring games are so few.. someone should try to figure out a NEW genre of games that requires joysticks to play.

This is actually just a rerelease of Falcon 4.0 with extensive updates. A small dedicated group has been adding to, and fixing every little thing from this sim. Now I guess it is being released for sale with some further enhancements.

Graphics aside, this is by far the most realistic recreation of modern combat experience. There are hundreds of pages of information, and yes some key presses are like alt-shift-9 and such. It's very daunting, but for the small worldwide community, it's still the sim to beat in terms of scope, detail, ai, and dynamic campaign.

There used to be a quite large market for these types of games 10 years ago...unfortunately those years are gone. I have long enjoyed Falcon 4, and hope it resells enough to raise some eyebrows of producers to invest more money into the sim market. perhaps wishful thinking.

The binder version was the original release of Falcon 4. Falcon 3 was released back when a 386-33 with 4 meg of ram was the hot stick on the block. It's a great sim but you've got to be willing to put a lot of time into it to enjoy it. You could dumb everything down to the point that it was playable right out of the box but what's the point.

You do realise that's why they call it a Sim, right?

I enjoyed Falcon.... ehhh... 3.0? when it came out, I think I played it on my Amiga 500? Probably won't get it again, just not that much into hardcore Sims anymore.

I wish someone would make another contemporary flight 'sim' a la Strike Commander. God, I miss Origin.

I played Falcon 4.0, it was waaaaay over-sim. there was like a full 10pg chapter for every minor targetting system you had and cntrl-shift-alt-Home-F1-Up Arrow type quick keys that ran in the hundreds. Guess there is a market for those type of games, but I felt I should have a salary coming after a few weeks of play.
