Tabula Rasa Revamp

The Tabula Rasa Website (thanks Frans) has word that the site is undergoing an overhaul to accompany a major transformation to Destination Games' upcoming MMORPG, which is now heading in a new direction:
For those of you who’ve been following the development of Tabula Rasa, you may be aware that the game underwent a major transformation over the last year. We’ve hesitated to share more information about these changes as we wanted to be absolutely confident with this new direction. At present, we are pleased to report that this project is shaping up to be a truly outstanding massively multiplayer online game.

The reasons we have undergone this transformation are many and complex. Simply put, our team felt that the first incarnation of Tabula Rasa was not the game we felt it should be. We felt this way from our own reactions playing the game as well as others external to the team playing it. We believe that the change for the positive will be obvious to all.

Over the next few weeks you will see changes to the Tabula Rasa website. The site will be receiving a major overhaul in advance of this year’s E3 event. You can look forward to new creatures, new features, and new information. Everyone here at Destination Games and NCsoft is excited about the new look and feel of this highly anticipated game. We hope you’ll be excited too.

Richard Garriott and the Destination Games Development Team

"Maybe they should get a new start with a blank slate... "

They did when the Art director Programmer Lead and some team manager all walked last year. Thus we get a new "Tabula Rasa". Garriott is a producer nowadays and did not agree with what the team did.

'Course it you have all that money from NCsoft, I guess deadlines and lazy oversight are not a problem.

Well you do guys at least put up a good arguement, they did refine their art direction in the later months making it look more like UO2 then anything else, I just remember the laughable initial shots when they announced it.

You have to remember who is footing the bill for this game....NCsoft (as in big Asian publishing/development house). I don't think it was strictly for the western market.

I was referring more to shots like this:

I think Lord British should stick to Brittania themed games.

If memory serves, Tabula Rasa had a techno-fantasy look-n-feel, and looked more like Phantasy Star Online, or even Outlaw Star, than anything. Just look at the shots:

What are you talking about? The awesome ant power ranger look was super sweet with all the saturated reds, blues, greens and pinks, it was incredible!!

Seriously though, Tabula Rasa wished it had art direction like Legend(come on, bad movie, great art work) It looked like some lame low budget show from asia.

Well I hope they redid all of the artwork in the game too. That wispy fantasy look does nothing for me- the last thing I want is to feel like i'm watching Legend with Tom Cruise.
