Sunday Q&As

  • Rev 7
Gamaimme's Marty Bee Q&A talks with the creator of Rev 7, a Christian-themed first-person shooter: "I was drawn to the extreme popularity at the time of the series of books. So I thought it would be cool to do a game based on the book of Revelation. Problem is I never got past the first 3 chapters! There was just so much there in the letters to the 7 churches. So Rev7 is just an allegory to the first 3 chapters of the Book of Revelation."
  • Stan the man
Chatting up Stan Lee on GameSpot catches up with Stan the man at the DICE summit. Stan the man!!!

Isn't this a one-man project? If it is, your being FAR too critical.

Why don't you go play Starshatter and then get back to me. One guy is responsible for that game (John "Milo" DiCamillo), and he didn't use any DIY game engine to make it.

Well, the New Testament God also does the same thing.

I mean, people die all the time. Good people. For no reason. That's because the LORD works in mysterious ways, of course.

I want to play an Old Testament game, where, like God, I can kill anyone including innocent people, simply because I can.

I imagine a Christian game would be about as entertaining as Christian rock
I just like seeing developers do something different, risky, and out of the box. Even if the result is bad I give them high marks for trying. I imagine creating an FPS without blood, gore, sex, violence, or Satan worship and still be entertaining for adults and appealing to kids would be a very tall order.

This game though features demons and stuff. It doesn't sound particularly "christian."

Some are good and some are bad. Thanks for the "award" though.
I will keep trying. For the record, did you read the Q&A it does sound pretty bad?

I still think Jesus power is better idea. Like mana.

Actually though, I can not find a reference for JoeBlow: Post of the Day, maybe you could be more specific then I could respond better.

You win the "esoteric reference" of the day. Try responding to the poster's content or at least responding to the original topic perhaps.

You got a better or worse post about Christian gaming I would like to see it. If you can write something intellectual or even funny go for it.

If all you can do is point out grammar errors or attempt to tear me down then dont bother that would be pointless and boring.

I imagine a Christian game would be about as entertaining as Christian rock. Not. Like rock music a game with a "message" would be somewhat contrary to the entire context of the medium. Plus you have to get so specific as it relates to your own beliefs that it can't possibly have mass appeal - there will be too much for the average person to disagree with. That's why there isn't a whole lot of "protest" music anymore - it narrows the market.

Now, on to Stan Lee making games: the idea that someone who doesn't play games can make a good game is akin to the idea that someone who doesn't read books could write a good one. Sure it might happen once or twice - but not likely.

"The weapons are all hood ornaments from cars of the fifties. They are painted with hot rod flames, and your ammo is junk food."

"Junk food, initially the first level is all about our walk with Christ and "devotions", also known as Quiet Time. Usually you do this in the morning with coffee and a doughnut (thus junkfood becomes health and ammo.)"

" In the last level your goal is to become seated on the throne with Christ (that is to share his reign)."
--------------------------------------------

It is a well known fact car hood ornaments are phallic symbols. Why, would somenone make a game using phallic symbols as weapons? Unless they wanted to spooge on everyone which does not sound very christian.

Share his reign?, is not that what got the Devil in trouble?

Maybe you should of used another weapon idea, "Cellphones are also "cultural ornaments", particularly among men who see them as pocket phallic symbols - a hand-held sports car, so to speak."

Kill with the cellphone then call God after.

Would not a real good christian game have your hero using Jesus Power? Basically as you solve the game you get more and more powers, power to turn undead, to walk on water, to turn water into wine, make food, fly, power "word" of God.

Maybe you get a sword and a shield or the sword is a magical beam of energy used to "do good", and the shield is a aura "of protection". And you solve quests and serve as a disciple, some such and learn about the bible and book of revelation at same time.

Maybe a servant of god, getting a second chance, earning his way into heaven, bla bla, or just a designated "chosen one".
