Pirates! Fix

A fix for Sid Meier's Pirates! can now be found on the Infogrames FTP server (direct link). There are no details on this posted along with the file or on any of the game's related websites, but the mirror on 3D Gamers explains that this is a DVD version replacement addressing SecuROM copy protection issues.

I loved the first one, and I love the second one. Sure it's repetitive, but what SP game isn't? It has that addictive, just-one-more-quest-and-then-to-bed quality which so many other games lack.

i cant BELIEVE this game got the ratings it did - i think reviewers must have been ranking the "legend" and not the current game... because it is clearly not that fun

if there is one game they should remake that should play just like original it should either be Colonization or MAster of magic

The problems with the DVD version had NOTHING to do with inserting disc 2. They just forgot to change the text for the DVD version. The problem was with the SecuROM copy protection scheme. Many crapo-DVD drives have problems with DVD game discs.

It really is lacking a lot of the original. The main issue for me came down to atmosphere. This one was just too cartoony. I mean, sure, playing as the "good guy" pirate can be ok a time or two. But what if I want to play a real bad-ass? I'm stuck with goldy-locks, the hero. I'm stuck watching cheesy swashbuckling moves (kicking buckets, etc) during combat. All ruin the game for me.

I don't mind some of the other changes, although the dancing is just dumb. And the land combat is better, but takes too long when doing it often. When I outnumber them 2 to 1, I shouldn't have to waste the time. Oh well.

I played a few games, but the only real challenge was memorizing the dancing cues. It is a really fun game, but with very little depth.

Btw there is 5 difficulty levels, the one you alla talks about are for beginers, and yes it is only to learn the game, try setting another time period, it can also change the way you can play the game

I have the DVD-ROM version, and I had no problems installing and playing Pirates! at all. It never asked for "disc 2". I guess it was only some copies?

moonbender, I started a new game before I uninstalled and went after the pirates right from the start. With the first little piece of shit boat I was able to defeat all 8 pirates in like 45 minutes.

and yes it is the same, every town is the same ordeal, every 5 minutes you are repeating what you did in the previous 5 minutes.

No, it's not the same. If it was, it would take longer than an hour to get a hold of the biggest ship in the game, and you wouldn't be able to easily capture it with a freaking Sloop. I also wouldn't have finished my first game with the highest rank you can attain in the game, something I've never accomplished in the original.

If you wanted to play a game like that, you didn't want to play Pirates. Maybe you should look for something else.

The new Pirates! is *exactly* the same as the original, except with pretty new 3d graphics. The same dialogue, choices to make, everything. Quite a disappointment for anyone expecting something new.

Is their a nude patch for pirates?

Delete the dancing. Delete the land battles. Delete your crew leaving. Maybe then. I played the a windows version back in 94 and it was a hoot.

I want a 3D version, open ended sea with day and night cycles, whores and muskets. Be as nasty as you want to be. Pirate Arging is fun.

Morrowind-Pirates build your own little secret pirate alcove. Make your town as you get richer, blacksmith, shipwright, recruiting npc's, etc.

This fix came out right after launch. It allows people who bought the DVD version to actually play the game without downloading a no-cd crack. The original version asks for "disc 2" to be inserted for play. Of course, there is no "disc 2" for the DVD version.

does this 'fix' give you more to do?

with only 5-6 things to do in this game its WAY to repetitive. the game is good for 2-3 plays and thats it.
