And Then There Were None

The Adventure Company announces the first of the their Agatha Christie games (story) as they unveil plans for And Then There Were None. The game will be based on one of Dame Christie's most famous novels, which was also the subject of three movies (two with the same name as well as Ten Little Indians). Here's the deal:
Toronto, February 3, 2005 – The Adventure Company, a leading publisher of PC adventure games, today announced And Then There Were None as the first title in a series of games based on the books from legendary mystery author, Agatha Christie. AWE Games has been signed to recreate the rich storyline and characters from this best-selling novel.

Storyline:
In the classic story And Then There Were None, 10 people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Shipwreck Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear. On the island, they are cut off from everything but each other and the inescapable shadows of their own past lives. One by one, the guests share the darkest secrets of their wicked pasts. And one by one, they die...

Agatha Christie fans, and newcomers to the genre, can look forward to a series of unexpected turns; although the storyline stays true to the original concept, players will encounter new plot twists. The first comes in the form of an 11th character, the player, a boatman who brings the others to the island and then is trapped there himself. To save the lives of the intended victims, the player must unravel the motives behind the murders and uncover the identity of the killer. If successful, he will spare not only the lives of the remaining guests, but also his own.

“And Then There Were None is one of the greatest mysteries of our time, and the perfect title to propel what is starting out to be an incredible series,” said Richard Wah Kan, CEO of The Adventure Company. “It’s a challenge to recreate such a masterful story, but we’re confident the talented team at AWE Games will do both the novel and fans proud.”

“We are proud to be a part of presenting Agatha Christie’s mysteries in a new medium,” said Scott Nixon, Producer for AWE Games. “Her writing and the adventure game genre make a perfect match, one that stresses character interaction, development, and psychology.

With game design by Lee Sheldon, the game will ship globally in Fall of 2005 and has an anticipated ESRB rating of “T” for Teen in North America and “12+ PEGI” in Europe.

I think she owns about 85% of all Agatha Christie books, and she intently scours bookstores for those she doesn't have yet.

Attention The Adventure Company :

Please make sure this will run on a laptop with crappy graphics card. I do not want to lose my own PC to my wife playing your adventure game.

Alternative option

Please send cash, so I can buy a better PC, and she can play your game on this one.

Either option works for me.

Edit : I like the Europeans' way of rating things. I mean, why bother trying to keep something simple, when you can REALLY confuse people by something like 12+PEGI. What does this mean? Does this mean anyone who is 12 years old can play this, but you can also play it if your name is PEGI (Peggy?)
Does it stand for Partially Evil Gnomes Included?
Is it a code that signifies when EA will buy this developer?
These are the things I think about.

The original movie from 1945 is one of the best mystery movies i've seen, if not THE best. The game will not be up to its standards but if it can be what like indy3 was for the movie i'd be satisfied.

I think this may be the only Agatha Christie book I read - I was more into Sherlock Holmes, a series which has had its share of interesting and crappy games. I really enjoyed this book at the time, but I'm not sure how I see a game translation working out. We'll see, though.

The correct title is "Ten Little Indians".

Ack -- you are quite right.

My Ten Litte Indians story is watching it on TV as a kid with my grandfather and losing a bet we made during the final commercial break over 'who done it.'

Anyone who has seen this movie knows why I lost the bet, but the sad thing is that I was so naive at the time that until my mom pointed it out, it didn't occur to me that my grandfather had seen this 20-year old movie before.

Sneaky old bastard... you'd never guess he was a minister.

If any one is a reader, Agatha Christie books are great. I think I read most of them when I was a kid.

The correct title is "Ten Little Indians". Maybe you are mixing it up with "12 Angry Men".

When I read the title of this story, I thought for sure it was going to be how EA had purchased every remaining game developer in the world. Imagine my surprise when it wasn't.

Hmmmmmm? Where have I heard this before....

LET ME THINK.

A game where a player is the last GUEST to arrive in a mansion. A mansion to which they are invited by a host who fails to appear, and who has been killing the guests, shortly after each one reveals what a jerk they are.

Hm!

Well I just can't recall!

But I'm sure the answer will come to me at the 11th hour.

Please tell me you aren't REALLY claiming that this game, based off of a book written in 1939, is a ripoff of a game made a half century later.... Or, at the least, please tell me that you aren't claiming that The 11th Hour was original, considering the facts of the matter. In any case, it is never the basic concept that is telling, but the execution thereof.

Was the player the 7th Guest at the 11th hour?

Sometime soon there will be no IP's, franchises, licenses etc left. What a dull world the video game world really is.
God bless the Japanese for keeping creativity alive.

Agreed, however I'm cautiously optimistic since The Adventure Company is handling it.

They're right, it's an great classic mystery story, up there with the Orient Express, but I'm always doubtful about well known stories turned into games....
