I did not like Far Cry. I saw the outdoors and wanted to go live there. Then I start the game and it is all about sneaking around and shooting people when they are not looking. They should have advertised Far Cry as "Like to stab people in the back? Are you so cowardly and evil that you think shooting someone that doesn't even know you are there is cool? Then Far Cry is for you!"

Look. If I wanted to be the kind of person that hides in little dark corners where it is safe, while I shoot unsuspecting people in the back or from miles away, I would go to Iraq. I could shoot women, men, children for real. If you got a small ego and no testicles, why settle for Far Cry? Iraq would really give you some bragging rights for how "tough" you are shooting people in the back.

Combat for me, in video games or real life, is about squaring off with an opponent and determining whose skill is better. It is about the both of you improving your skill. When you face monsters in other video games, you need skill to win. You have to run, dodge, jump, duck, spin, spin the other way. You have to be alert and watching all the time. You have to be able to determine the trajectory and velocities of the ordnance the enemy has. You have to pay attention to how much firepower the enemy can withstand and how much health and armor you have left.

A sniper can be a 98 pound weakling, bad haircut, snot running out of his nose and stutters when he speaks. But he can kill 50 people from that dark little hole he hides in. He never gains weight, he never gets strong, he never learns to walk or move properly, he never learns to think. There is no reason to think in a dark little hole. You ever wonder what those snipers do when they are not shooting kids in the head? What do most guys do in dark little holes?

An Isreali sniper just shot a 10 year old girl on a playground in the head today. I have a mental vision of what people like that must be like. They are sitting in front of the TV watching an old Arnold Schwarnegger movie, munching on chips and candy. Arnold wipes out a group of people and the sniper is like "Oh Yeah?" They pick up their rifle, pick out a likely looking target, a girl in a schoolyard playing with her friends, and shoot her in the head. Then they whip it out and start pounding away while they shout "You ain't got nothing on me Arnold! Let's see you kill a 10 year old girl with a shot to the head from hundreds of yards away!

That is the kind of mental state a sniper has. That is the kind of people they are. That is what Far Cry and those other military training games are all about. Turning healthy and good people into cowards who like to hide in dark places where it is nice and safe. Just like mommie's lap.
