I am sensing: Features that won't make it to retail, a buggy experience, or overestimated potential [fable anyone?].

Eve-Online has a form of player generated missions (courier missions), complex (player) politics and an incredibly complicated economic system, so what's new about this?

Maybe it has those things and avoids being tedious - that'd be innovative.

I remember Evo...

Mined...mined....looked for a fight for along time..mined and mined...

/cancel beta.

heh.

I need a damn RTS type MMORTS like 10six was but better. 10six could have been amazing but it aimed for far to many people per world and needed more units and ways to fight back.

2man armys sucked.

6.7) How does the combat system work?
The combat is real-time (twitch based),

That alone makes it worth a go.

Yeah I cant wait to try. Realtime rules. Planetside bores me to death need something more RPG like less UT like.

Seems it might be it. Damn Monday is so far away.

Did Planetside ever have any problems with aimbots? I always thought that was the only downside to a MMOFPS/RPG.

Planetside from all the time iv'e been on it (day 1, then left for about a year, playing again now) I havn't found an aimbot hack for it. It has had a few exploitable bugs (ps was originaly fully client sided, this allowed users to simulate a temporary linkdeath, kill the people who are now not moving on their screen, then let the game catch up and boom, the other guys die) that are fixed (still alot of client side, but makes all attempts to freeze your game once your lag is above 1.5 seconds or so). there is still the issue that dell laptop users with SpeedStep tech can "accelerate" their game, thus their run speed. A bug that can't really be "stopped", how ever someone can report the user, logs can then be checked (user does not need to be caught in the act by a GM), and the user will be banned.

I like PS, its not the best, but no body else is doing large team based first person shooters!

I'll try it. The graphics aren't old enough to turn me off, and twitch-based sounds fun. If the execution is good, hell, why not?

Wow, that's some really badly written code if they can't allow for a change in processor speed on the fly. Hard to see how that can happen, given that the range of machines it needs to run on means they have to be using timing independent of the cpu.

Wow, they went Open Beta already? Last time I checked they had barely anything.

I played this since the first (the FIRST) closed beta, and you know what, after you actually play it, all their promises kind of wear off. The AvP engine is horrible, the graphics are poor, the environments are tiny. Needless to say they optimized too much for 56k users and they don't even have hitboxes..

But hey, if they manage to pull of all the features it might be good.

Hmm, my first impression is that Eidos might be suing them for ripping off Deus Ex art, and my second impression is that the game looks a bit like Neocron (ugh). But what the heck, I go to sign up... hmm it says my nickname is already taken... and I have to start registration all over again? Ya, I'll pass thanks.

I wish Neocron hadn't kind of ruined it's premise for everyone else.

Wouldn't a good, quasi-realistic RPG be nice? Bladerunner style gameplay, dark and gritty. I'd like that. No one will do it now though.....too afraid that Neocrons failure means people aren't interested.

Neocrons problem (for me) was that I made a snazzy character in a futuristic world where I started with my own apartment......and the game sent me to kill freaking rats in the sewer. I'm sure it had plenty of other issues, but I stopped right there.

Hay, someone has to do the crappy jobs, even in the far flung future.

Reminds me of people who believe in reincarnation, why were none of them shit-shovelers? Amazingly they all seem to have been people like Cleopatra or Henry VIII.

Hmm, 2 posts in this thread, neither of which is about the game directly. I'm on fire.

jim, actually they CAN fix it.. but that actually open up another avanue to another speed hack. Maybe it's because the game dosnt dynamicly change its speed that prevents normal speedhacks. So they said it's not really something they can stop, so instead they have logging software that will log anytime it happens. It's just strange that someone must be told to look at it manually to find out when someone is cheating rather then it be an automated process.
