Out of the Blue

I mentioned recently that I was experimenting with removing refined sugar from my diet for a while, concerned that getting half of one's daily calories from soda is not what keeps Jack LaLanne going at the age of 90. Actually in looking up Jack on the Wikipedia to check his age, I see he was a self-described "sugarholic" up to the age of 15, so he can be my inspiration here. Anyway, I am pleased to report that this has (unsurprisingly) resulted in me having a good deal more energy, an enhanced appetite for real food, and by all accounts, a generally more pleasant personality. That last bit suggests that, while I was not going off on any serious rampages, I may have been a bit of a non-stop Cornholio for over 20 years now! Are you threatening me?

Anyone pick up the new Oddworld game yet? (Ray? You out there?)

First impressions? Mini-review?

I'm dying to know what they came up with this time, and if it's as awesome as the rest of their games have been..

Plans?! Bah, I actually built one using a length PVC pipe as the launcher. Learned an important lesson about how important it is to have a rocket's centre of gravity towards the front end, too!

Yikes ...jail time for stick figures.

I could only imagine if I was in school nowadays and they found my detailed ( for a 9th grader back in '84) plans for a rocket launcher using model rockets and black powder hehee. I'd probably STILL be in jail by today's standards.

Never did build the thing but it was a fun technical excercise

unrar is <200k. Installed. And completely free.

Which is a big difference, when you're downloading on a 56k modem.

Enahs, that's a 1.1M download that's not free (limited trial).

Hmm…Maybe the new version is not…or download.com has the info wrong (or there is more than one Winrar!). As I have had Winrar for a long ass time, and it is not a trail, full version (they do ask nicely for money, but that is it).

Mostly replying to test new .sig...might be a tad too long...

Uhh...I thought rar originated on Linux?

No, RAR well predates Linux. At least as a popular thing. Linux weenies prefer gzip anyway.

why do you need a rar decompressor for Linux....in reference to HL2?

Yes, but I download everything to a samba share on my linux box, and I knew getting a rar extractor for Linux would be easier and less hassle than some massive bloatware for Windows.

But what seems even more wrong is… why do you need a rar decompressor for Linux....in reference to HL2? HL2 is Windows only?

fancy name for some of the worst texturing I've ever seen
There was texturing?

I checked the console and after that map loaded, it said something along the lines of 'no lights' and set the map to fullbright. Oi. Elvis, that one has to come out of the rotation, it's complete garbage.

I jumped onto another server after that, was pinging around 80 and having a great game. 12 people, I was third alone. The two above me were 20-25 frags higher, and the next closest below was about 20-25 behind.

Remembering to reload kills me more times than anything else. And the crossbow fires so slow. I know it's powerful and there's a reason, but geeze.

Getting anywhere from 110 up to 300+, I think it got noticably worse when there were more than about 5 people on Kasasu (fancy name for some of the worst texturing I've ever seen).

I wonder if I could host a server on my wife's laptop whilst I play on my desktop - I'm sure she wouldn't mind :0

Small and poo. Reminded me of a first effort Q2 map.
WHOA! 300+ pings. Couldn't play for more than 5 minutes.
I was getting in the 150's (from east coast), but played a few maps to get my bearings. Not bad; but I'm definitely the chum.
