WINGS Grounded? SÖLDNER Not Soldiering On? [Jan 26, 2005, 9:53 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
A story on PC Games Online Germany says (in German) that JoWooD is preparing to
shot down SÖLDNER developer WINGS Simulations and Transportation Giant developer Studio Ebensee. As can be read via a rough Babel Fish translation,
this move is intended to help focus on their core genres of strategy,
simulation, and RPGs. The story indicates that this puts a second SÖLDNER add-on
and a SÖLDNER sequel in jeopardy. There is no source listed for this
information, but an English story on
Worthplaying
attributed to "our Jowood sources" also reports the same general information,
though this may just be a rehash of the PC Games Germany article. Our attempts
to get an official comment on this from JoWood and WINGS Simulations have gone
unanswered as of this writing. Update: Worthplaying sends word that they
indeed have verified this news independently with JoWooD and WINGS sources, who
wish to remain anonymous, and that the Marine Corps add-on is definitely still
on track, and that a small core team will remain at WINGS for patches and
updates.

I'm guessing someone from the management actually played the game for the first time.. now if only this happened earlier they would've saved themselves the embarassment of releasing such a poor product.

About the speculation about whether this is true or not: Yes both companies have definitely been shut down. This is not unusual for JooWooD as they have done massive layoffs some years ago when they had their last major crash.

Sounds like one of those things that will either be the best game ever or the worst game ever, no in between. If it's turn based I'm hoping for best. If it's real-time with pausing (a la Freedom Force) I won't even look at it.

EDIT: The worthplaying article actually says that they'll be finishing up the add-on and releasing it still. Its the Soldner 2 project thats not going to happen (if thats an accurate article). No surprise there.
Which is unfortunate...since they basically said the addon won't fix a lot of the problems, it will just add to the content. I was really looking forward to a part duex to make the game a lot better.
It is a fun game, when it works correctly.

Thats too bad. I think they were on the right track with the upcoming content but the word of mouth is so bad that it just may not be worth the cost for them to continue.
