EQ2 Adventure Packs

Sony Online Entertainment Announces Innovative Adventure Packs for EverQuest II (thanks Frans) reveals details on plans for incremental content expansion for SOE's MMORPG sequel:
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online (MMO) gaming, today announced the forthcoming Adventure Packs for EverQuest II, a content release strategy intended to give players access to new content between traditional game expansions. The first Adventure Pack is scheduled for digital release in March 2005 for $4.99.
"Today we're announcing a new content strategy for EverQuest II that presents online games in an entirely new manner, like that of a television series, or serial movies," said John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment. "Players will be able to unlock ongoing storylines that appeal to them, while enabling us to deliver more content than ever before."

The planned content release strategy involves a mixture of purchasable bi-annual expansion packs along with periodic releases of story-driven Adventure Packs adding new content and gameplay elements to the world of Norrath, in addition to continued updates to the game at no additional charge. The first Adventure Pack will be centered on the Dark Elves of Neriak and an unbridled evil in the tombs below the surface of Norrath. The US version of the Adventure Pack will be available to European players as well at release in English, followed by localized versions.

Adventure Packs will feature new quests, zones, storylines and story arcs that will allow players to further immerse themselves in the shattered lands of Norrath. All players will have access to certain levels of the Adventure Packs; however in order to complete the content, players will need to purchase the Adventure Packs for a small fee. Additional details on the first Adventure Pack will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Im level 23.

Im taking my time, power leveling in 3 days, great and all but your missing out on a ton of stuff.

This game and the same with other MMO's is all about getting out of it what you put into it. Fair enough when the healer leaves the group disbands, solutions, get a solid group of similar people together and make a point of levelling at the same rate as them. Thats what i do in my group, we level at the same rate, meaning we always have a decent tank/healer/sorcer etc combo. We might not be lvl 30+ but we have fun, and i think thats the main thing 'mon'.

I wont make any comments about sitting around outside playing EQ2 instead of working.

There is this women in my apt who won't leave, who sends me off to some catacombs I can't find

If you can't even figure out what the woman is doing there by talking to her and can't even find the catacombs she's talking about then this game indeed isn't for you.

hmm, well the catacombs are in the area just outside your apartment, marked as the downbelow on your map or thieves way depending on wether your good or evil. as for forcing you through the noobie areas it does serve a purpose although admittedly its not apparent at first, and that is to familiarise yourself with the area. You realise how usefull this is later on as the maps start to click as to where everythign is.

Its a big game and worth spending the time to get through the first few bits.

And cheese im unsure why your complaining, apparently the game is worth it for a month or two to get 3 chars to above lvl 30! seriously how much time do you have?
It might be a good thing that youve finished with it, maybe you should go outside and get some fresh air

Please go die a nice quiet death.

Yours Truly...
Gamers.

I tried to actually give EQ2 a good playing to see if it was just me, but i can't for the love of everything holy get into it. Now I beta tested EQ and played for a good number of years and even had 2 accounts. But after starting a character and finally getting off the island i was more confused then ever. There is this women in my apt who won't leave, who sends me off to some catacombs I can't find, and overall I just can't stand the game.

I mean it looks like they tried to make it newbie friendly but hell compaired to EQ I find the first game 100 times more newbie friendly. I mean how the hell are we suppose to go do these adventures if we 1) can't get into the city to get citizenship and 2) are forced through newbie area after newbie area?

Everything I've experienced with EQ2 is a step backwards from EQ1 which is suppose to be the money cow for SOE.

And it seems the SOE is trying to drive away the customers. I mean hell they really should take a look at the other MMORPG's out there and figure out that ya don't charge extra for this type of shit.

Yo SONY! Go take a look at City of Hero's. A buttload of free content roughly every 3 months (give or take a month for the Issues as Cryptic calls them to go through the test server).

And i'd still rather stick to WoW Trade skills.

Yes, that small fee comes out of your account every month. Or did you forget about that one? This statement makes my point in my earlier post.

umm no, no it doesent. its a one time fee. you pay if you want it, simple as that.

So let me repeat, if you dont want it then you dont have to buy it

"As for this expansion pack, personnally I think its a pretty neat idea. Firstly you can play though the beggining areas to see if you like it and if you do pay a small fee to access the rest. "

Try Rubies of eventide, Knightonline, Run for your life RYL, or anything else but this EQ2, please there making this game so great at the lower level's 'I'll admitt but,

thats just to suck you in and prove to the company its a success, Why oh why in the world would they design this game where you must group, and then the poor healers quit cause it drives them crazy trying to keep everyone healed so eventually the group disbands,

this will happen to you after lvl 20 at least "depending on how long you play each day" 6 times a day or more. moments of joy are found here sure but then the healer quits and it all SUCKS after that .

damn im beating the hell outta this horse, only reason is cause im so angry at EQ2 cause IT DID give me total joy up untill lvl 20 then the crying begin's. You've been warned!!!

Wait a minute... don't you already pay monthly for this? There should be no additional charge for additional content, since it does NOT cost them 15 bucks a month (or whatever) to support each player. Other MMORPGs give out new content for free, probably at the same rate...

or doing some of the special quests (like the Enchanted Lands access). dont make me laugh ok. No way you can do anything IMPORTANT without grouping in this game, oh I belong to a great guild and have no problems grouping cept when a healer has to go or leave your group then everyone quits the group like a bunch of P, This game is broken from the inside out the design mantra for this game should have been shelved so as not to be TO Fking dependant on healers,

Dont try anything IMPORTANT on your own cept for crafting thats the ONLY brite spot in this game I promise you.

I'll repeat easy to get groups sure BUT SOON AS THE HEALER LEAVES ITS GAME OVER, great design SOE i'll never turst you agian and i must have given you boatloads of cash to spawn this abbomination on us so i guess im to blame too cause with the money i spent on EQ1 this is what we get. OUCH

This is comming from a level 30 DarkElf necro who finished all EL quests and AQ quest too i have seen the light and the light is dim.

Im waiting for some fool to come on and disprove me that you can do important things SOLO, and please tell me you been in a group and a healer leaves and then the entire group breaks up WTF is that about. I wouldnt play this for free

Im a big fan of EQ2, I really think a lot of players havent seen enough of the game before writing it off (especially magazine reviewers who provide sceenshots from the newbie areas only)

It IS good fun to take on some of the mobs, or doing some of the special quests (like the Enchanted Lands access).

That said, Ive got deep into crafting as well as adventuring and there are some big problems with the economy that need addressing.

However, after reading here about login delays for WOW, its clear that no MMO game is perfect and really its a case of whether you are willing to live with the problems or not.

After defending EQ2 launch which was smooth, and getting 3 diff characters past lvl 20 highest is a lvl 30 necro DarkElf. This is what I have to say to SOE .!...

They destroyed this game I wouldnt play it for free even , I didnt buy WoW but did do beta and I must say to All, DONT WASTE YOURE TIME OR MONEY ON EQ2, Go buy anything but it, even EQ1 is WAYYYYY better than this crap that dosent even deserve to be called EQ2.

Wow is the best mmorpg with prob SWG JTL comming in a far second and third would be Matrix online even though its not released yet. Sorry i must be honest even though I had HIGH hopes for EQ2 and defended it , I must swallow all kinds of pride here cause , not telling you the truth is way worse than saving my pride.

And I still refuse to pay anything for these heaps. I have plenty of good games to play that don't require me to keep inserting coins like some midway game.

You guys are the biggest bunch of punk-bitches I've ever seen...swear to god, it's like you find a 1$ bill on the street and it's worth more than uncut diamonds around here.

"Good old AC had it right. FREE monthly content updates. "

Free updates that suck ass, unbalance the game, support cheating and unattended macroing, and really don't add as much content as one major EQ expansion over the last five years?

You get what you pay for.

Feathermoon actually had a small queue and high population the day all the servers were down and the entire server was full of non RPing whinging skirt like individuals all bitching at once in general chat. It was mildly entertaining for a few minutes.

Proudmoore has a queue now to stop the server crashes, it sucks queues were the reason i left blackrock. Time to find a low pop server i guess

I guess its hard when your game is so crappy and no one plays it.

explain to me what it is you're doing now?

I'm having ablast with EQ2, never had problems getting a group.
I appreciate that both games cater to two different audiences. I always have to laugh when people get their panties in a twist when someone says something bad about their favourite game
