EQ2 Adventure Packs

Sony Online Entertainment Announces Innovative Adventure Packs for EverQuest II (thanks Frans) reveals details on plans for incremental content expansion for SOE's MMORPG sequel:
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online (MMO) gaming, today announced the forthcoming Adventure Packs for EverQuest II, a content release strategy intended to give players access to new content between traditional game expansions. The first Adventure Pack is scheduled for digital release in March 2005 for $4.99.
"Today we're announcing a new content strategy for EverQuest II that presents online games in an entirely new manner, like that of a television series, or serial movies," said John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment. "Players will be able to unlock ongoing storylines that appeal to them, while enabling us to deliver more content than ever before."

The planned content release strategy involves a mixture of purchasable bi-annual expansion packs along with periodic releases of story-driven Adventure Packs adding new content and gameplay elements to the world of Norrath, in addition to continued updates to the game at no additional charge. The first Adventure Pack will be centered on the Dark Elves of Neriak and an unbridled evil in the tombs below the surface of Norrath. The US version of the Adventure Pack will be available to European players as well at release in English, followed by localized versions.

Adventure Packs will feature new quests, zones, storylines and story arcs that will allow players to further immerse themselves in the shattered lands of Norrath. All players will have access to certain levels of the Adventure Packs; however in order to complete the content, players will need to purchase the Adventure Packs for a small fee. Additional details on the first Adventure Pack will be revealed in the coming weeks.

fine ill bite.

Amusingly you have to wait to login to WOW.. and you consider 7 minutes to be a good time?

No login delays on EQ2 and a single 2 day down time, which we got compensated for in free play time and increased exp for 3 days.

But yeah maybe i am just picking up on all the bad things ive heard about WOW, it just seems that i hear about this log in delay, server outages and abuse by GMs and player kickings for wandering into the wrong areas an awfull lot.

As for EQ2 not recieveing any updates to the game, despite it not making the news here the big update we just had added two new dungeons and a ton of new solo quests.

oh yeah, and it downloaded direct to my computer via SOE and took under 10mins, despite it being a big download.

But your right, some of you have never played the game and your sweeping generalisations are probably based on fact somewhere along the way.

As for this expansion pack, personnally I think its a pretty neat idea. Firstly you can play though the beggining areas to see if you like it and if you do pay a small fee to access the rest.

Note you dont have to buy it and more importantly if you dont buy it you still reap the rewards of what the expansion pack adds to the game outside fo this specific area.

Not that you would care about that as its fun to bash on things that you dont participate in i guess.

Frankly I dont know how anyone playing (other than a few hardcore MMOG geeks) has time to play these. The content in this game is so dense and time consuming that it would take me over a year @ 4 hours per day just to get through it all.

Hump,
At first I thought that too about EQ2 but I've found it to be pretty easy once you get the basics down. I've had it for about a month and have gotten to level 21 or so. The big emphasis is on grouping with others which gives you bonus XP towards reaching the next level.

Admittedly some quests are rather long but those longer quests reward your character justly with better gear or a good amount of coin.

Having only played one other MMO game briefly, I'm pleasantly surprised by EQ2.

Of course all bets are off when KoTOR2 comes out for the PC though

"would that mean waiting 60 minutes in the log-in queue?"

Dipshit lol

I would rather wait for 5 minutes than play one hour of shitty EQ2

besides, log in waits in wow are for the idiots that spammed that Archimonde would be the RPG to the entire world before the game went live then made characters on there.

My login wait on my server have never been above 7 minutes, even opening week. So what you have are idiots from the two most crowded servers pissing and moaning, and then EQ2 morons grabbing any piece of bad news for WoW and trying to be inflammatory with it

I guess its hard when your game is so crappy and no one plays it.

Only if you pick an overloaded server. I have yet to experience this fabled 'login queue' on Feathermoon or Silvermoon, not even for a second, much less an hour.

Is this the Pack that makes the game World of WarCraft?

would that mean waiting 60 minutes in the log-in queue?

I'd rather see Sony invest in getting the game performance up to snuff and fix the issue with Nvidia 6x00 series cards stuttering like a tourettes patient.

Sounds more like Sony released EQ too quick in order to beat WoW and now they are adding in the content they probably wanted to have from the begining. The marketing guys eyes lit up and said "Why dont we just charge for it now?".

All it will take to show how dumb this is is for Blizzard to release a "content" pack for free.

I am not sure what everyone is complaining about. I am a 27 year old working professional. I play EQ2 about 10-15 hours per week. I consider this the cheapest entertainment I have come across. I have spent more money in 5 hours at the bar then I pay to play EQ2 for a year.

I don't even play this game and I think this is rediculous! Wasn't the whole idea of paying monthy fee for an MMO was that you'd get content updates?? Now they want for charge MORE for 'extra' content? This is outta control. Shame on any of you that buy these adventure packs. Your monthly fee should be paying for these upgrades.. don't pay extra again! This is not a trend we should allow.

I don't know what is worse.. SOE's abuse of their customer base or the willingness of the players to take it. Sadly unless consumers boycott practices like these things will only get worse. I have little faith in the EQ drone. I work in the field for a major ISP and I can always spot the MMORPG player. House is a wreck, kids are tearing the walls down, and mom and dad are cracked out on EQ. Not to say that I haven't seen high functioning people that play but they are the exception for the most part. If people are gona take it companies will continue to do it. How long has EQ2 been live? Come on SOE, this is getting rediculous.

Good old AC had it right. FREE monthly content updates.

With SOE and EQ2, not only do you have to pay your montly fee, but also for the content updates (Adventure Packs) AND the bi-annual expansion packs.

Gouging the consumer, thats the SOE way.
