BATTLESTRIKE Unveiled

This CITY interactive products page (thanks HomeLAN Fed) announces development of BATTLESTRIKE: The Road to Berlin, a new World War II arcade shooter due in the first quarter of this year:
The guns of the greatest of all wars roar into life in and on The Road to Berlin. This fast-moving game drops the player right in the middle of frenzied combat action, where the thrills just keep coming! Pilot, gunner, sniper, paratrooper – all these roles are played out through a simple, intuitive point-and-click interface, allowing instant and complete immersion in the game world.

The weapons and weapon platforms modeled in the game range from legendary fighters such as the P-51 Mustang to the Springfield sniper carbine. 16 summer and winter combat missions, realistic sound and graphics, plus fast-flowing action make for an exciting and satisfying gaming experience.
The battles will be fought both in the air and on the ground under diverse conditions, in different seasons: from summer through winter and in various places: from fields or villages up to the very centre of Berlin.

This is blantantly egregious.
LOL! I suggest because do some research because you apparently know nothing about intellectual property law. The very fact that there are so many games created about World War II and other historical themes is because they are public domain material.

Remember when (either Microsoft or Mythic) sued one another because the name of the company/game was infringing one another's intellectual property?
You apparently don't remember it (at least not correctly) because that was a trademark infringement dispute over Microsoft's use of the word "Mythica" for a video game. "Battlestrike" is NOT "Battlefield" or even a derivation thereof. In addition, neither EA nor DICE has a trademark on "Battlefield." DICE applied last year for such a trademark, but it has not yet been granted, and there are prior applicants for using that term in computer simulations so it may not be granted.

This is WAY too close to Battlefield 1942. The name Battlestrike is all-caps like BATTLEFIELD 1942. The image of a WW2 soldier on their boxart is in a similar pose as the boxart of BF: 1942. The byline "The Road to Berlin" is copying "The Road to Rome" from BF: 1942. If EA or Dice sues, I'm behind them 100%.

Well, at least they're not saying it's realistic. When it comes to hype for WWII games, that's gotta count for something.

OMG another one? I'm so sick with all this being an american soldier crap. Why don't somebody make something original for once. Like make a campaign with all forces including germany. I'm still waiting for Hans Blitzkrieg! Maybe we have to wait for all the old folks to die off then we'll get this kind of game. I would love to have a Road to washington game where you get to burn the white house. That would be awesome! Thanks for the burning Brits!

If Hitler had known it would come to this when he invaded Poland, I think he'd have stuck to interior decorating.

Well blow me down! A WW2 shooter! As if that poor dead horse hasnt been beaten enough. *shrug*

X-COM: Terror from the Deep is the best game ever made so thats why it stays installed forever . X-Com apocalypse was...ok, but not as good. What I really was hoping for was that X-COM fps game thats was developed but later canceled.
Screenshots looked good, (unreal 1 engine) and it was supposed to be just like the old x-com games, just that you would be able to take over downed ufos in fps...

Anyone remember that one? Think there are any screens left on the intarweb?

Spiritual Successor, phrase - "We could not make our game do everything the 10 year old 8 bit sprite base engine does because we fucking suck". See UFO: Aftermath.

Also, fucking matel or someone owns the licence to x-com, don't want to develop it, screwed the gollup brothers out of a studio and forced them to go make play by mail games in HELL.

It's been released already.

It was called X-Com Apocalypse and it wasn't very good.

Where is Elite 4? where is X-com 3 where is Fallout 3? even that would be a huge improvement over what we have as far as choices these days, you want new and exciting titles?
then count on imports like Gothic 2, Parkan, Battlemages, or even Nexus the Jupiter Project.

Please dont tell me you want more FPS shooters, ok ok if you do then only 2 titles have even half a chance of me picking them up and thats #1 Fear and #2 Project Snowblind < which is being developed by crystal dynamics in canada i think> but dont quote me on that.

There is one WW2 themed shooter that i trashed but must admit that i will be steamrolling down to the store to pick up the monent its released, Brothers in Arms, but let that be the last WW2 title we see for years please.

anyone hear remember MULE? Archon? or even dare I say Shadow of the beast hehe or Blood Money both the last two titles were made in the 80s by a company called psygnosis.

Please tell Mr Dave Braben or Ian Bell to hurry up and finish Elite 4. and do it before you come out with a expansion for RCT3 <Roller Coaster Tycoon 3>

Oh i almst forgot Oblivion< made by bethesda its the follow up to Morrowind.

What the hell? So is this going to be a rail shooter then I suppose? It really is time for these WWII games to disappear. But will they? Oh no. Expect plenty more yet...

Now THIS is the glut of WW2 shooters. When most people were complaining, most of the games were infact quite good, but now it really is becoming a glut: assloads of bad games.
