Morning Q&As

  • DOOM 3: RoE
The DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil Preview on Yahoo! Games Domain (thanks HomeLAN Fed) includes a couple of quotes from id's Marty Stratton and Matt Hooper about the upcoming DOOM 3 expansion: "We're keeping the dark, scary feel from the original. People that liked Doom 3 will like this."
  • Empire Earth II
GamersInfo's Empire Earth II Q&A offers a consultation with Dr. Ian Davis, the mad doc of Mad Doc software, about their upcoming RTS sequel: "There's a real subtlety to what's going on here. For instance, each region has its own set of powers and abilities, and civilizations have their own unique attributes, etc. -- these two converge to keep things fresh here. To some extent, we tried to factor in individual, unique historical events, etc. and have them add a general, broadstroke tone to the regions, civilizations, etc. At the same time, we looked at the most interesting historical pieces of each campaign, and we tried to play to that."

No, it deserves the flak for having as much variation as minesweeper.

The sad thing is I'll probably rush out and get it for the Xbox the day it comes out. Playing co-op could probably salvage it.

The scripted sequences were very entertaining and well done, the graphics were very well done (they were what kept me going, things like the halucinations,) and the plot via PDA was fine, especially since you could play the audio clips while shooting. The problem was the action itself, it was simply repetitive, redundant and predictable, more than any other FPS I played in 2004 (admittedly there weren't many.)

Co-op might overcome that.
