DAoC Fee Increases

The Camelot Herald (thanks Frans) outlines price increases for subscriptions to Dark Age of Camelot, citing increased costs as the reason for the move. They are also offering a six dollar discount on a one-year subscription as well as opportunities to lock in their current rates until the next billing cycle.

hahahaah this is one of the stupidest moves they've made, along with ToA and NF.

How should we make our game more appealing in the face of EQ2 and WoW (well, really just WoW)? oo, I know! Let's charge more for our pos!

Good luck Mythic.

Think about this. A price increase might just be enough to get them to switch to join their friends who have already switched and have been asking them to leave for months.

Yeah, this is a really bad time for them to be sticking it to their customers (despite the fact that it does bring their price in line with most new MMORPGS).

I recently cancelled my Camelot accounts: it wasn't a bad game, just that the ultimate goal keeps moving: level 50 became level 50 with uber stuff. In a PVP game, that means if you aren't getting the uber stuff, you are at a disadvantage in the endgame.

I think with the pressure of Worlds of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and City of Heroes, it is a really bad time to be charging more. I mean, even Anarchy Online realized that.

Stupid move is right. Unless they've decided they're at a point where they're unlikely to get any new subscribers and will from now on be relying on the hardcore who aren't going to leave no matter what shiny new MMORPGs come along. I think UO did something similar. When you just can't compete with the new games it's time to make as much from the existing subscribers as possible.
