This was actually my favorite part of the single player game...

Too bad they didn't improve the multiplayer like Tribes 2 did...

Hasn't this game already found it's way to the bargain bin? Is ANYONE playing it online? Why bother with another demo?

At any one time there are around 200-300 people playing so if you want to play you can usually find a server. Its a fun game actaully but there are just WAY too many other quality games out (HL2, WoW, EQ2, Halo2, etc.) that TV is just lost in the shuffle.

I'm not sure it would have made much difference, but I can't help but thinking that the original demo was so completely and perfectly AWFUL that any casual gamers were immediatly turned off. Now they are doing anything they can to get people to play. The only thing that will save this game now is some great mods. I hope the Starseige mod kicks ass, but some other, new, innovative mods are desperately needed.

I just cannot believe how fast this game came and went. It didn't deserve to, it's the best multiplayer FPS in years; and I'm not even a tribes fan. At the same time people are gobbling up ut2k*shit and CS:S.

According to csports.net, there are only 57 people playing it right now, compared to 108 playing Tribes 2 and 155 playing the original Tribes.

GameSpy consistently lists over 300 players. I would take its numbers as more accurate given how csports doesn't count duplicate names as different players.

The main reason why Tribes Vengeance doesn't have more players is simply because there is too much big-name competition in multiplayer games, and Tribes Vengeance still costs as much as the top selling games in its genre. Tribes Vengeance would be a great game for $10. For $50, $40, or even $30, there are better multiplayer games available.

I was all gung-ho to buy it the day came out after being in the beta but in the final they slowed all the players down to a crawl making it a lot less fun to play and more like "Ut with jet packs". It just lost all the appeal to me and became a sort of short bus riding Tribes 2.

I liked it a little bit when it was released, but right away it felt like I was playing a UT2004 mod. It did not have the original, new game feel the original Tribes did. Very disappointing for me as Tribes 1 killed off a lot of my time and neither sequel really did it for me like this. Like most of you, I had big hopes of a Tribes 1 feel with new graphics and weapons and expected it after reading the developer comments, but I just feel like I was lied to.... again. I didnt pay a lot of attention to the pre release, but it was my understanding the devs asked what people wanted and they wanted Tribes 1 style gameplay, something lost since... Well Tribes 1. Oddly enough, I can keep a Tribes 1 server, base, full of people 24 hours a day.

Only thing sadder then this was Leisure Suit Larry, where gross humor apparently is supposed to be funny for hours.

I got Sierra for one more game, the new SWAT. If they drop the ball there, I will be very hesitant to buy anything they sell again, regardless of reviews and opinions until it makes the bargain bin.

I know where you are going with this Mega~9000, and I largely agree as a Tribes fan. One game I would add to this list is UT24k which has to be the single best multiplayer value out in the last year.

Completely off topic, but... did anyone see that FEAR video on Fileplanet? Can't seem to find it mentioned in past news, just wondering what ppl thought of it. I was pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to it.

UT2004 and Battlefield 1942. Both of those games offer a much more rewarding multiplayer experience in terms of gameplay, longevity, and player numbers than Tribes Vengeance.

If I only had a limited amount of money to spend on video games (as most people do), I would buy UT2004 and BF1942 not Tribes Vengeance.

As a die hard original tribes 1 and tribes 2 player, I just feel they removed too much of the feel of the original games in Vengeance. It feels like UT2004 with jetpacks to me, and I don't really care for the cartoony and hyperspeed UT2004 in the first place.

It's too bad, because I was really looking forward to this game. I think developers need to learn to advance games without removing what made them good in the first place. I always had the feeling in the other tribes games that I was in gigantic outdoor areas, where T:V feels like I'm in an "arena" made to look like an outdoor area. That takes away a lot from the game for me personally.

On that note, Quake 4 has some big shoes to fill. I would like to see a return to the Quake 2 style raw gameplay, but I don't hold out even the slightest bit of hope for that.

Developers: Stop trying to make works of art, and get back to making GAMES. Tribes was ALWAYS about gameplay first and beauty second (or third). That was part of it's charm.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

I would say UT2004 is the best multiplayer value to date. Enemy Territory would rank a close second though given the fact that it is also popular, can also be modded and has been, and is free.

The single player got overshadowed by everyones expectations of MP. If you can find it for a good price you should check it out. One of the better SP shooters I played last year.

Also, I've no doubt this will be the last game in the franchise. We can all thank the "Vets" for being so overwhelming in their demands that Sierra was uncomfortable with trying to do something different. Additonally the "Vets" had a huge hand in how this game was made so I find it ironic that they are all migrating back to T1 or T2 "Classic".

hopefully the Starsiege mod will give this MP a bit more value when its ready.

The free being the biggest factor in its success, though. If it wasn't free, I doubt it would be as big.

I don't like UT's gameplay, but I will agree that it is a good multiplayer value due to the way Epic supports it & the community bonus packs. You also mentioned Battlefield 1942, but I was thinking more along the lines of games released last year. So, we have UT2004, but I think that is really the only game comparable to Tribes in MY terms of "value".
