Out of the Blue

I'm going to take a little road trip today with our puppy Gunnar. One of the reasons Hudson the wonder dog is remarkably well-socialized is thanks to getting to visit Devicer's home, where in addition to a couple of doggies, there are several cats representing a range of feline personality types to teach one one's place. Even as a puppy, Gunnar is a whole degree more mellow than Hudson, and I expect he will adapt to being around new critters and new situations even more smoothly than his big sister.

Uh, kinda late, but I'd go for FFXI, which is online-only. It does need the HD though. Your gf will either love it or hate it.

Im not pissed enough to go and sue Valve, plus i dont have the time due to exams quickly approaching, however i am pissed enough to not even consider looking at DoD: Source of HL: Source for a good few months. It's just bloody stupid.

Wow shit.. I didnt know it worked like that. So I have the regular box retail copy which was bought for me on Christmas. You're telling me that when DOD comes out, I won't be able to play it because I didn't order the "Gold" package? I thought the whole point of steam is that you can just pay for add-on's etc.. and just download them..? I don't think we should even pay for mod's. Mod's are supposed to be free. Is Valve making the mod now or is it still the original guys?

Anyways, on a side note, thanks to whoever posted that mod yesterday - that thing is fun. If anyone missed that link:

This is not a Steam issue. It's a "we're stupid" issue on the part of Valve.

Agreed. I've got a few friends here at work that are wanting to get HL:S, but since they went Bronze, they can't.

Great way to turn sales away!

it's only available as part of a higher end HL2 package.
For now.

THERE IS NO SODDING OPTION. Bloody Steam.

This is not a Steam issue. It's a "we're stupid" issue on the part of Valve. You can't buy HL:Source or DoD:Source separately in any way, shape, or form -- it's only available as part of a higher end HL2 package.

Now if you are really infuriated by this, and I mean really infuriated, you can go do research on your country's anti-trust laws and see if you can prosecute them. I believe what they are doing is technically illegal in the United States. When you cannot purchase product B without also purchasing product A, when A and B are entirely separate products (which could be questionable since they both use Source and Steam) it is known as "tying" and is illegal under various state and federal laws. Of course, it's also a provision that is rarely enforced and easily weasled out of.

I don't browse the steampowered.com forums, but I'd bet that there's a good bit of whining about this over there. There may even be an official response. Wonder if anyone's brought up that they may be violating the law in Washington state (http://www.atg.wa.gov/trust/primer.shtml).

Ok this is just down right infruiating. Having just got through my Student Loan (yes i love being a scrounger and spending the tax payers money unwisely :D) i went into town and purchased myself a nice leather rolling tobacco pouch.

Getting back home i see that Half Life Source has been released. Cool, i thought, i'll see if i can download this and play it.

Onto Steam i go, and i start parousing (no idea how to spell that) the list of games available. I saw Day of Defeat Source as well and thought, "Oooh i might see if i can get that too". I double click on it, and it comes up with payment options, which i dont really take notice of, since i was looking for a quick link that sas "Click here to download and play the game", or something to that effect.

I don't see it so i leave it and head for HL: Source. I see that you need either the Gold or Silver HL2 package. "Fair enough, wheres the option to either upgrade or just purchse on the side HL: Source." I look. I see nothing. I can only register one package per steam account. Fair enough, but what if you're like me and you want to buy things as they are released because you dont want everything that is available in a certain package, thus saving money?

THERE IS NO SODDING OPTION. Bloody Steam. That is perhaps one of the most pathetic things i've seen. Fair enuogh one package per account, but i don't want to set up a new account just to have myself pay another £80 or so for a Gold edition just so i can play HL source and DoD source. I spent £35 already on the game, why do i need to fork out even more for it?!

ARGH!!! Infruiating i have to say. If there is an option somewhere that someone can point me to that enables me to download/purchase things on a single basis and not as a package, please enlighten me.

LOL, Xii. Today's Evening Consolidation seems to go nicely with your post.

Sure, I use my PC for multiplayer too, but there is a place for gaming with Xbox Live. If you don't want to use it, that's fine.

Personally, I like gaming with real life friends, and to be honest, pc gaming is just not that accesible to them. My guess is that because its mainly a solitary experience unless you are at a LAN party. So they won't spend the time to try it out, yet they will play Halo, DDR, Madden, etc. when they come over. You can't easily play Doom3 and Half-Life2 with a bunch of friends who just come over to hang out.

Once you have them try out console games, they are willing to purchase consoles themselves and then Xbox Live makes it easy to play with them when throwing a party is just not possible. It gives you voice comms and quite a bit more selection then the GCN with Mario Kart and Warppipe.

That's just my own experience with the nature of today's gaming. (PC's and consoles).

I have Ratchet and Clank : Up Your Arsenal along with the PSonline and all I can say is "WOW!". I'm totally impressed by the amount of content (modes/maps/weapons/vehicles) and gameplay jam packed into the online component of this game, considering it's a PS2 game. The action can be best compared to Halo on crack.
