Savage Patch

S2 Games now offers a new patch for Savage: The Battle for Newerth (thanks Frans). This is not actually a new version, but rather a repackaging of several updates into a single package: "This update includes the 2.00 content patch, which acts as a mini expansion pack for Savage, as well as recent fixes to the server browser and authentication systems. Savage game servers will not show up without this patch installed."

Sinistar, I believe you just dload the game and enter zeros in the cd registration. Create an account on the forums and ask as others have!

Savage never ever used cd-copy protection at all, not even the retail boxed version afaik.
hell, you could buy it online and receive a cdkey online anyway, then just leech the game off their servers.
I did that, and it came with a linux and win32 version.

no need to boycott savage

Does Savage still or did it ever install that Starforce copy protection crap that supposedly breaks many peoples operating systems/computers?

It replaces your optical drives drivers or something like that and is hard to remove if I remember what I read here on Blues.

Ihya, where does it say that on the forums? I can't find the thread.

I really liked the concept for this game, but I never got it because there was no offline component; I don't play online very much. Even if it just had bots, I would have picked it up.

Oh and fyi, check out the forums and you'll see it mentioned in stickied threads (so I think it's official) that the CD authentification no longer runs, so basically you can download the game from s2games themselves and play it for free. This has been happening for some time (you cannot even buy a DCD code anymore I believe) and no one from s2 games has complained or commented in many months, and indeed is a situation of their own making.

I played 'em all in 2004 and yet this is the game that sucked all my spare time away from me. The rts aspect coupled to my love of online fps gives it a tactical edge I cannot find anywhere else bar NS which I didn't much like. When you get a sucky commander it is frustrating, but when the commanders are equal and competent nothing else out there is quite like it.

Savage is alive and well, the community is small but I never have trouble finding a game. The server lists are screwy at times; head over to http://clansavage.com/servers for an IP address for the most popular servers. Indeed there are community patches out there SEP patch for Europe players, and EX2 for Americans.

Great game Slothy, remember you from the forums. I know it never became a mainstream hit, and there is no chance of a sequal. Perhaps it wasn't the success it should have been as there were no bots to play with offline to help with the learning curve for both player and commander. The 1.0 release was a little rough around the edges as well I guess, but all that is now a thing of the past. In the current sea of generic 'twitch kill one shot from half a mile away' games that bore me to death, Savage with it's rts/fps hybrid mix was just ahead of it's time and didn't quite catch the wave (though it was recognised with a couple of awards).

Best of luck with the future!

There are also mods that will make connecting easier, but I can't remember their names (EX2 and SEP I beleive). If you head to the forums, you can find them as well as help on getting them to run. You'll have to survive the flames though. This patch basically just makes it much easier to get to 2.00e without having to install all the previous patches before it.

Protoz, they did some changes in the last few patches that changed the master server location I believe, so you should grab this patch and then see. There are usually games going all the time.

Disclaimer: I worked on Savage

Anyone play this game anymore? I tried to awhile ago but the master server wasn't showing any servers for me so I gave up. It was a cool game with a lot of good ideas that came together in the 2.0 content patch.
